Joe Burrow Receives Disastrous Injury Update

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow missed the vast majority of Week 2’s win over the Jacksonville Jaguars after suffering a gruesome injury. According to Jeremy Rauch of Fox Sports, the quarterback suffered a turf toe injury with torn ligaments that will sideline him for several weeks.

Joe Burrow Injury Update: Quarterback Will Miss “Several Weeks” With Turf Toe, Ligaments

In Burrow’s absence, the Cincinnati Bengals will turn to longtime backup quarterback Jake Browning. The undrafted free agent played reasonably well in relief of Burrow, completing 21 of his 32 attempts for 241 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions while guiding the team to a difficult victory. The quarterback also saw extensive action in relief of Burrow back in 2023, when he started seven games while completing 171 of his 243 attempts for 1,936 yards, 12 touchdowns, and seven interceptions.

Don’t be surprised if the Cincinnati Bengals add another arm in the coming weeks to add some depth to the roster. Veteran Brett Rypien, currently a member of the practice squad, will back up Browning for the time being, but a free agent like Tyler Heinicke could provide additional security.

Unfortunately, Joe Burrow is no stranger to injury. The first-overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft missed the final six games of his rookie season after tearing his ACL. While he stayed healthy in 2021 and 2022, he missed six additional games in 2023.

When healthy, Joe Burrow is one of the game’s best quarterbacks. Last year, the quarterback completed 460 of his 652 passing attempts for 4,918 yards, 43 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. He currently holds the all-time completion percentage record at 68.6%.
