BREAKING: Commanders Trade Brian Robinson to San Francisco 49ers

The writing has been on the wall for a while now, but the Washington Commanders have officially agreed to a trade that will send Brian Robinson to the San Francisco 49ers. Robinson, a former third-round pick, spent the past three seasons in the nation’s capital.

The timing of the Brian Robinson trade perfectly aligns with the breakout of seventh-round pick Jacory Croskey-Merritt. Joining the team as a late-round afterthought, the Arizona product impressed throughout camp and is now set to earn the Week 1 starting job. Washington intentionally held Robinson out of their Week 2 preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals to avoid injury, and now he’ll have a chance to lead a new rushing attack.

Brian Robinson originally entered the league as a third-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. Selected by the Washington Commanders, his career began on a rough note when he was shot during an attempted robbery in the offseason. Despite this, he returned to the field for 12 games and led the team in carries (205) and rushing attempts (205) while scoring two touchdowns.

He continued to build on this impressive debut and led the team in rushing in each of his three seasons with the club. Primarily playing with Sam Howell in 2023, Robinson recorded 733 yards and five touchdowns on 178 attempts while starting in all 15 games in which he appeared. He put up similar numbers under rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, ending the campaign with 799 yards and a career-high eight touchdowns on 187 attempts. With his help, the team made it to the NFC Championship Game before falling to the Washington Commanders.
