“Mutual Interest” In Cowboys Free Agent Reunion – Ravens, Saints Could Intervene

Wide receiver Amari Cooper had some of his best seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, and a reunion could be right around the corner. Originally joining the club midway through the 2018 season, the former first-round pick spent four seasons with America’s Team, recording 292 receptions for 3,893 yards and 27 touchdowns while establishing a strong rapport with quarterback Dak Prescott. While the team ultimately traded him to the Cleveland Browns, both sides could benefit from a reunion.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Amari Cooper and the Cowboys have “mutual interest” in a reunion, although nothing is imminent as of this posting. This makes sense, as Cooper needs a home and the Cowboys need somebody to start opposite superstar wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. Cooper is probably the best free agent receiver left on the market and would make sense for Dallas, but other teams could try and steal him from Dak Prescott’s squad.

Amari Cooper, Dallas Cowboys Have “Mutual Interest” In A Reunion – Ravens, Saints Could Intervene

At this stage in his career, Amari Cooper should no longer be a true WR1 in an offense. Despite recording 1,250 yards in 2023, the veteran struggled in 2024. Splitting time between the Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills, the wide receiver finished his season with just 44 receptions for 547 yards and four touchdowns. While he battled through a wrist injury, it’s safe to say the 31-year-old has lost a step in his later years.

That being said, Amari Cooper can still be a helpful wide receiver, whether it’s for the Cowboys or another organization. Even if he never recaptures his pre-2024 form, he’s still an adequate depth piece and reportedly was a positive locker room influence during his time in Buffalo. Dallas appears to be the frontrunners for his services, but don’t be surprised if the Baltimore Ravens or New Orleans Saints make a late run.

Other Fits

The Baltimore Ravens have one of the league’s strongest rosters but could use more depth at the wide receiver position. Pro Bowler Zay Flowers is a fine starter and Rashod Bateman has his moments, but the rest of the depth chart leaves something to be desired. Amari Cooper could give Lamar Jackson a much-needed security blanket in the offense, especially since there’s a decent chance the team parts ways with Mark Andrews before Week 1. Baltimore came close to making the Super Bowl in each of the past two seasons, and Cooper could be enough to put them over the top.

The New Orleans Saints, meanwhile, are not contenders but could still use a veteran like Cooper in their offense. If Derek Carr plays, he could use a familiar face to help establish some consistency in this passing attack. If he doesn’t, New Orleans could still use a reliable veteran to help second-round pick Tyler Shough develop into something resembling a franchise quarterback.
