Eight-year veteran defensive tackle Jonathan Allen signed a new contract with the Minnesota Vikings. Allen, a two-time Pro Bowler, spent the entirety of his career with the Washington Commanders.

The 2024 season was one of the worst of Jonathan Allen’s career. Limited to just eight games, the defensive tackle finished the year with three sacks, 19 tackles, three tackles-for-loss, seven quarterback hits, and a 56.0 PFF grade, the 70th-best mark out of 118 eligible players. Despite his relatively slow season, the Commanders made it to the NFC Championship Game under rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels and first-year head coach Dan Quinn. Due to his high cap number and relative drop in play, Washington released Allen after the season.

Jonathan Allen originally entered the league as a first-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. Selected by the Washington Commanders, Allen effectively took a redshirt rookie season after injuries limited him to just five games. However, he played a full season in 2018 and demonstrated his upside. Starting in all 16 games, the Alabama product finished the year with eight sacks, 61 tackles, 11 tackles-for-loss, 15 quarterback hits, and a 69.7 PFF grade. Two years later, he helped the team make the playoffs despite uncertainty at the quarterback position.

Allen earned his first Pro Bowl selection following the 2021 season. Starting and appearing in all 17 games, the defensive tackle finished his age-26 season with nine sacks, 62 tackles, 10 tackles-for-loss, 30 quarterback hits, and an 84.9 PFF grade, the third-best mark in the league. He proved this wasn’t a one-year fluke in 2022, as he recorded 7.5 sacks, 65 tackles, 16 tackles-for-loss, and 17 quarterback hits while making another Pro Bowl.

Since signing his rookie contract, Jonathan Allen has appeared in 109 games while making 108 starts. While on the field, the veteran has recorded 42 sacks, 401 tackles, 60 tackles-for-loss, and 118 quarterback hits. He made the Pro Bowl twice but only has one season with a playoff win.
