Wharton hits free agency on the heels of what is easily the most productive season of his career. Appearing in all 17 games while making 10 starts, the defensive tackle finished the season with 6.5 sacks, 29 tackles, seven tackles-for-loss, 11 quarterback hits, and a 60.8 PFF grade, the 48th-best mark out of 118 eligible players. With his help, Kansas City made it to their third consecutive Super Bowl and hoped to become the first team to win three consecutive titles. Unfortunately, those hopes were dashed following a blowout loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Tershawn Wharton originally entered the league as an undrafted free agent following the 2020 NFL Draft. Signing with the Kansas City Chiefs, the Missouri S&T product made the Week 1 roster but only saw situational playing time. Appearing in all 16 games while making one start, the rookie finished his inaugural campaign with two sacks, one forced fumble, 27 tackles, four tackles-for-loss, and four quarterback hits. Kansas City made it to the Super Bowl but lost to Tom Brady’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Wharton played a similar role in 2021. Providing reliable depth for the defensive tackles, the undrafted free agent finished hi second season with two sacks, 29 tackles, no tackles-for-loss, and two quarterback hits. After suffering an injury that limited him to five games in 2022, Wharton returned to the field in 2023 and put together another solid season. Playing in all 17 games, Wharton recorded two sacks, 21 tackles, two tackles-for-loss, and five quarterback hits.

Since signing his rookie contract, Tershawn Wharton has appeared in 72 games while making 13 starts. While on the field, the Missouri S&T product has recorded 13.5 sacks, 114 tackles, 14 tackles-for-loss, and 26 quarterback hits.
