After a trade two years ago, Aaron Rodgers could be released next year and the Saints, Panthers are among the five potential destinations. According to reports, the New York Jets owner Woody Johnson suggested a bench for the veteran quarterback after the loss against the Denver Broncos in week four after the team went 2-2. It’s surprising since the team didn’t believe in him in the first place but now they realize he’s probably holding the roster back as they will likely go for another rebuild.
After firing Joe Douglas, it seems imminent that New York will firesale plenty of talent this upcoming offseason. Douglas disagreed with Johnson’s suggestion of a bench so it might be a chemistry issue they’re sustaining in New York. Originally selected in the 2005 NFL Draft, the former first-rounder was the staple of the Green Bay Packers franchise after winning its first Super Bowl under Mike McCarthy. Rodgers hasn’t been the same over the past two years but he probably still has something in him where he could take a team to one more Super Bowl before he retires.
Since Rodgers is open to playing into his mid-40s, he still has one more solid run to see if he can cap off his career on a good note. Here are five potential destinations that could help him do that.
Franchise Icon Aaron Rodgers Could Be Playing For New Team – Four Potential Destinations
Carolina Panthers
The Carolina Panthers will have a new starting quarterback in 2025 after failing to stick with Bryce Young for most of the season. Andy Dalton was brought in for full-time duties to give this offense some life but it was never enough to lead this team to a postseason. Dave Canales benched Young for a reason so they might as well sign Rodgers when he becomes available so they determine what he has to offer. It would give the Panthers some additional time to figure out their quarterback for whoever they get in the 2025 NFL Draft.
New Orleans Saints
The Saints had a promising 2-0 start with Derek Carr under center but things came crumbling down. Rookie Spencer Rattler came in to play a couple of games this season to take over while Carr recovers from his injury. Chances are that they’ll be in the market for a new quarterback after firing Dennis Allen. Rodgers won’t drastically change the team but he could be the main ingredient to bring out the best in a solid offense that New Orleans is attempting to construct.
Minnesota Vikings
The Vikings may want to re-sign Sam Darnold after putting on a phenomenal season thus far. However, the chances of that happening are slim since rookie J.J. McCarthy will come back next year to try to earn his starting role again. Darnold could look for a better-paying gig and full-time duties elsewhere so if that stands, they should roll the dice on Rodgers. McCarthy won’t be ready for an entire season so he might be the last crown jewel piece if they don’t make the Super Bowl next year.
Baltimore Ravens
Rodgers may be doing backup work for the rest of his career. This seems unlikely but it may be something that the veteran has to do to earn a starting role in the following year for a new team. Lamar Jackson is one of the greatest quarterbacks in the past decade but a few injury issues could give Rodgers one last shot.
