2025 NFL Mock Draft

Could the Indianapolis Colts take a quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft? While it seems unlikely, it could still happen. In a recent mock draft put together by Hail Mary Sports, the Colts take Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers in the third round of the 2025 draft.

Perhaps cornerback is the Colts’ biggest weakness right now. They failed to address the position this past offseason, and the young and talented JuJu Brents is having trouble staying healthy.

However, Indy could use help at quarterback as well. Anthony Richardson, who the Colts drafted fourth overall in 2023, has struggled. The former Florida Gator has completed only 44.4 percent of his passes this season. Yeah, that isn’t a very impressive stat. Plus, veteran Joe Flacco hasn’t quite looked like Peyton Manning or Andrew Luck either. The Super Bowl XLVII MVP is coming off a three-interception effort in a loss to the Buffalo Bills. With that said, drafting a signal-caller does make a little bit of sense.

Ewers’ Career Thus Far

Quinn Ewers was ranked as the No. 1 player in the 2021 class. He committed to Ohio State, passing up offers from schools like Alabama, Georgia, and Texas. Following just one season with the Buckeyes, He entered the transfer portal and transferred to Texas.

Ewers threw for 2,177 yards and 15 touchdowns during his first year with the Longhorns. In 2023, he recorded 3,479 passing yards and 22 touchdowns. So far this year, Ewers has thrown for 1,722 yards and 19 touchdowns for the No. 3-ranked Texas squad. He racked up 333 yards and five touchdowns during the school’s recent 49-17 win over Florida.

Should the Colts Draft Him?

Before this season, Quinn Ewers was considered one of the top quarterback prospects for the 2025 draft. However, his stock has taken a hit. Ewers has had an inconsistent 2024 campaign. Plus, he was out a couple of weeks due to injury and was benched for backup Arch Manning during a few series. He sometimes forces receivers to adjust mid-route and throws errant passes on occasion.

Yet, Ewers still has the potential to develop into a solid NFL quarterback. He possesses a strong arm and good mobility in the pocket. He also has a knack for extending plays with his legs.

A lot of Colts fans would rather see Arch Manning in Indianapolis. Manning, of course, is the nephew of Colts legend Peyton Manning and former New York Giants star Eli Manning. However, he won’t be eligible for the NFL draft until 2026.

Who knows, maybe the Colts will wind up landing Arch. In the meantime, though, they could draft his Longhorns teammate, Ewers in the 2025 draft. The 6-foot-2 Texas native could come in and compete with Anthony Richardson for the starting job next season.

The 22-year-old Richardson was benched recently in favor of Joe Flacco. It’s unclear if he’ll ever manage to get his job back this year. If he does become the starter again and shows progression, there won’t be a need to draft Ewers or another quarterback. We’ll see what happens.
