The Green Bay Packers or Baltimore Ravens may sign $118 million free agent quarterback, Ryan Tannehill this regular season. According to a report, the veteran is still looking for opportunity in the NFL since hasn’t been able to find a job this offseason. However, he’s remaining patient but one source has the Packers signing Tannehill since Jordan Love will miss a couple of weeks but they’re not looking for a veteran. It would be crucial for the Packers to sign someone like Tannehill considering the team needs to adjust with recent backup quarterback Malik Willis after acquiring him in a trade.

It shouldn’t surprise anyone if the Packers explore other options, it seems like it was the right time for Willis to arrive in Green Bay. However, Tannehill has other rosters to explore, as teams always look for depth. Tannehill did say that other teams have been contacting him but everything would need to line up for him to return even if it’s in a backup role. According to multiple reports, the former Comeback Player of the Year is still fresh and will be ready for the next opportunity as the season progresses.

With week one games underway, a team is already looking for an emergency quarterback but it shouldn’t surprise many if other teams start reaching out. Tannehill has an 81-70 record with 34,881 yards, 216 touchdowns and 115 interceptions. Any team with a star quarterback out for the season could probably keep an eye on him if they’re looking for a fighting chance in the postseason. However, the Ravens may need some depth behind Lamar Jackson even though they were able to bring back Tyler Huntley.

Baltimore may feel comfortable but it doesn’t mean Huntley will immediately be ready so Tannehill has the experience advantage.

Other Potential Destinations

Carolina Panthers

It may be just week one but after Bryce Young‘s performance against the Saints, they should probably explore another backup. Andy Dalton is still solid but he can only go as far as a first-round exit if Young continues to slack. Carolina has been working the entire offseason adding a supporting cast for Young but things didn’t work out for at least week one. Tannehill provides a more leadership experience than what Dalton can do if he needs to step up so no one should be surprised if the Panthers sign him.

New Orleans Saints

Derek Carr put on a fire performance even though he only had a few receivers to work with. He put up three total touchdowns in the first half and was continuing his dominance against Carolina’s defense. However, this is just the first few weeks so if they see Carr slacking during critical games down the stretch then they may consider switching quarterbacks. Rookie Spencer Rattler has plenty of potential to be a QB1 one day but the time isn’t now since New Orleans is expecting a deep playoff run.

Tannehill may not be the same athlete anymore but if the Saints want to keep the same regime under Dennis Allen then they should give him one last shot before he retires.

Los Angeles Chargers

Justin Herbert is set to play under a new scenery this year under Jim Harbaugh’s return to the NFL. Herbert was dealing with an injury during this preseason so this will be something the team has to watch as it can come back anytime. Easton Stick has been nothing but a disappointment so Tannehill would immediately take over as their backup. He would be like a bargain Phillip Rivers out there if he gets the opportunity.
