Drew Allar 2025 NFL Draft Scouting Report

Drew Allar is a 6’5” quarterback with exceptional arm strength and good athletic, traits that NFL teams would consider for a top draft pick.

Drew Allar NFL Draft Overview

The Penn State Lions had been knocking on the door for years of the college football playoff. With 12 teams now, Penn State feels they have a chance, mainly quarterback Drew Allar. Allar is a former five-star recruit from Medina, Ohio. Allar has been compared to NFL great Josh Allen for his crazy arm strength and good athleticism. He committed to Penn State and hoped to be the savior to get Penn State over the hump. During his freshman season, he was the backup for now Green Bay Packers Sean Clifford. Sophomore season, Allar led the Lions with 2,631 yards, 25 touchdowns, and two ints. However, Allar only completed 59% of his passes. Under new offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki, can Drew Allar take that next step?

Drew Allar Player Evaluation

Allar’s Strengths

  • Huge frame listed at 6’5 “, 243 pounds with good muscle and thickness to handle NFL punishment.
  • Arguably the most muscular arm in the country.
  • His big-time arm talent enables him to push and hit all three levels quickly.
  • Has a a quick, flexible release and can get the football out in a hurry and off different platforms.
  • Has the pressure of being a program savior experienced at Penn State?
  • Good pre-snap experience and control of the offense. He was allowed to read defenses and adjust protections at the line.
  • Good anticipation for a young Quarterback on timing routes. Got the ball out on time.
  • Shows off his arm on the run, making tough throws while on the move.
  • One of the best at deciphering against zone coverage in the class.
  • Has pocket presence, knows when to step up, and allows routes to develop.
  • Has the athleticism to extend plays and evade the pass rush.
  • Impressive at keeping the ball out of harm’s way. First-year starter with only two interceptions!

Allar’s Weakness

  • Has young QB flaws with Inconsistent footwork.
  • His feet can get too loose, which causes issues with his base. This leads to accuracy issues.
  • He completed only 59% of his passes. It’s low for a top 3 pick at quarterback.
  • He is often looking for a big play to make up for the lack of explosiveness in Penn State’s offense.
  • He passes up easy throws to open receivers early in his progressions too often.
  • Versus better competition, field vision was cloudy. Eye discipline was poor. LED to telegraphing his passes.
  • Loves to show off his big arm too much sometimes. Need to work on Touch passes.

Projection: Top 10 Pick

Best Fits: Las Vegas Raiders, Pittsburgh Steelers, New Orleans Saints

Bottom Line

Drew Allar has the Arm talent from the Gods and good athleticism to make plays off-schedule. If Allar declares for the 2025 NFL Draft, he could be the most talented player. Under a significant coordinator upgrade, this is a do-or-die season for Penn State. If Allar plays to his potential, Penn State could hold the National title trophy. I want to see Drew Allar take that next step in improving his touch passing and accuracy. Also, I want to see more consistent offense vs. elite Big Ten teams.
