Lamar Jackson Wants to Win Super Bowl in Memory of Jacoby Jones

Jacoby Jones passed away recently from hypertensive cardiovascular disease. Lamar Jackson wants to win a championship to honor his memory.

The Baltimore Ravens finished just one game short of a Super Bowl appearance last season. Baltimore lost to the thorn in everyone’s side, the Kansas City Chiefs. Kansas City won the AFC championship game by a score of 17-10- continuing their success, something every franchise looks to emulate. The Ravens plan on competing for a championship every year with quarterback Lamar Jackson, and now they have the roster around him to do so. This offseason, Baltimore retooled by re-signing almost every key player on the roster. These re-signings include Nelson Agholor, Justin Madubuike, Rashod Bateman, and Kyle Van Noy.

The last time the Ravens won a Super Bowl was in 2013. The Ravens beat the San Francisco 49ers in Superbowl XLVII by a score of 34-31. Although there were many standout performers such as Ray Lewis and Anquan Boldin, the Super Bowl hero was undoubtedly wide receiver Jacoby Jones. Although just a complimentary piece to the team, his importance has not been understated. Jones’ Super Bowl performance was revered by Ravens fans, earning him a spot in Baltimore’s history. On July 14, 2024, Jacoby Jones passed away suddenly from hypertensive cardiovascular disease. Jones’ untimely passing shocked players and fans around the world. Jones helped Baltimore win their most recent Super Bowl and the Ravens will look to cement his legacy.

Jackson Wants to Win Super Bowl in Memory of Jacoby Jones

Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is constantly speaking about winning and what it takes to improve. Every year Jackson makes noticeable improvements to his game, which is evident during the season. After a heartbreaking loss in the AFC championship game, Jackson promised to be the best anyone had ever seen. This offseason, Jackson lost over 20 pounds intending to regain his breakaway speed that he felt like he’d lost. “I was fat…I felt like I was fat” said Jackson when asked about his weight loss. Jackson says he feels “lighter” and “quicker” than before. Even after winning the 2023 NFL MVP award, Jackson is still thinking of ways to come back better.
Whenever Lamar Jackson is asked about the Raven’s expectations, he doesn’t hesitate to mention a Super Bowl. The Ravens are a storied franchise that expects to be in the title picture. Jackson has never shied away from the fact that he’s never been to the big game, and this year he has a different motivation- Jacoby Jones. Recently, Jackson said he wanted to win a Super Bowl for the late Baltimore legend, Jones. ” “Hopefully Jacoby flies high for us…we’re trying to bring one home,” Jackson said in a post-practice interview. After knocking on the door last season, Baltimore has enough motivation to make a grand entrance this season.

Jacoby Jones’ Importance to Baltimore

Jacoby Jones was not the best player on offense, but he was the spark that propelled the Ravens to a Super Bowl victory. Jones only caught one pass in the Super Bowl, but it was big. Quarterback Joe Flacco found Jones for a 56-yard touchdown, his only completion to Jones. On the other hand, wide receiver Anquan Boldin had 6 receptions for 104 yards and a touchdown, but unlike Boldin, Jones also contributed on special teams. As a kick/punt returned, Jones had five return attempts for 206 total yards and one explosive touchdown. Jones took a kickoff 108 yards for a touchdown to begin the third quarter, a moment that will be remembered by Ravens fans forever. Jones only played three seasons in Baltimore, but one was his best season as a pro. In 2012, Jones was named to the NFL All-Pro first team and also made a Pro Bowl, the only of his career. Jones played nine seasons in the NFL for four different teams, but will always be remembered as a Raven.
