The Kansas City Chiefs or Los Angeles Chargers may sign potential cut candidate running back, Jeff Wilson Jr. this offseason. According to a report, the veteran should expect to fight for a roster spot this upcoming training camp as the Dolphins are loading at the position. Miami was able to assemble one of the strong rushing attacks last year with Raheem Mostert and De’Von Achane. However, the bottom of the roster could have an interesting brewing as no one’s job is safe and that could include Wilson Jr. moving on.

A source claims that Wilson Jr. will compete in this training camp for a spot he’s been able to hold for the last season and a half. Many reports are expecting Jaylen Wright to earn the No. 3 spot which would leave Wilson Jr. and Chris Brooks battling for the final spot. However, it would be interesting if the Dolphins decide to stick with three running backs this upcoming year so no one should knock out that possibility. Even after a pay cut, it probably won’t save Wilson Jr. after taking a significant role in 2o22 after a trade deadline deal.

In 2023, Wilson Jr. has been stepping back after just recording 188 yards in 10 games and rushing 41 times. However, he’s still the “best player” to miss the final cut so this means other teams could become interested in his services. The Chiefs could be in the market for one last running back after letting Jerick McKinnon walk this free agency. Isiah Pacheco and Clyde Edwards-Helaire lead the way but one more wouldn’t hurt.

The same goes for the Chargers with Jim Harbaugh wanting to build a strong running game for Justin Herbert. It doesn’t happen with two bruised stars, J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards.

Other Potential Destinations

Carolina Panthers

The Panthers are the dark horse team that could be in the market for a running back. They already have a loaded room with Chuba Hubbard, Jonathon Brooks, Miles Sanders and Rashaad Penny. However, they could move on from Sanders since rumors have been spiraling of his frustration with the team. To avoid any animosity in the locker room, they should trade him and bring in Wilson Jr. as a cost-effective replacement as the No. 4 back behind Penny.

No one should imagine that the outlook of the running back room will look the same in the next two years. Contract years are on the way so it’s safe to get someone for cheap to build around Bryce Young. Wilson Jr. is nothing in comparison to what the Panthers have but it’s decent depth.

Dallas Cowboys

What are the Dallas Cowboys exactly this year? No one knows what’s going on with America’s team since bringing just Ezekiel Elliott back to answer the Tony Pollard departure probably won’t address the running back issue. The depth behind Elliott with guys like Royce Freeman, Rico Dowdle and Malik Davis looks weak for a team that wants to make another run at the playoffs. Wilson Jr. is no speedy type of back but it gives at least some competition in the depth chart.

Baltimore Ravens

Derrick Henry doesn’t have help behind especially considering the team is giving him a heavy workload behind. The Ravens put Keaton Mitchell on the PUP list so they’re down a running back this upcoming year. Wilson Jr. would emerge and finally have the opportunity to see how he excels in a new offense behind Lamar Jackson.
