4,000-yard playmaker, Courtland Sutton is contemplating a holdout this month and may seek a trade. According to a report, the best receiver on the Broncos roster isn’t ruling out the possibility of holding out this training camp which may ignite some rumor talks of a trade. Sutton may soon speed up rampant efforts for the team to pay him sooner rather than later before he commits to playing for the roster this upcoming season. However, he was a full participant at mandatory camp this offseason but that doesn’t mean anything about his commitment.
He’s been waiting patiently for a new deal so a holdout may trigger the Broncos to pay him the contract he wants quickly. Sutton isn’t looking for a deal like Justin Jefferson, Amon-Ra St. Brown or AJ Brown so it’s surprising that the Broncos aren’t finalizing anything. He wants a fair pay raise that matches the production that he’s been able to contribute to the team after leading this roster as their top pass-catcher. However, he did work on his own away from the facility this offseason when voluntary OTA’s while recovering from ankle surgery.
It shouldn’t surprise anyone that he’s looking for a new contract since he wants one before another injury occurs. Sutton is acting more generous than other receivers awaiting new deals like CeeDee Lamb and Brandon Aiyuk, which have people scratching their heads. Sutton isn’t saying much when reporters are asking if he plans to hold out this training camp which could indicate that he is. It shouldn’t be an issue for the Broncos to extend him after Denver decided to trade away Jerry Jeudy to the Browns.
It will be interesting to see what the Broncos decide to do.

Potential Trade Fits
Baltimore Ravens
There is still a lot of head-scratching for the wide receiving corps in Baltimore as Zay Flowers is still the leader of the pack. They’re bringing in Nelson Agholor to help Odell Beckham Jr’s absence in looking for a fresh starting WR3. However, Sutton may be the answer that the Ravens are looking for as a slot receiver to help out Rashod Bateman. It was surprising to many that the Ravens were bringing back Rashod Bateman on a new contract after a disappointing 2023 campaign.
His production could be boosted with the help of Sutton lining up or taking some reps to help take off the load. Flowers and Mark Andrews can’t be the only reliable receivers if the Ravens want Lamar Jackson to get his first ring.
Kansas City Chiefs
This would be a no-brainer move for the Chiefs to jump on but the Broncos probably make this happen knowing that they’re rivals. However, they need a reliable No. 1 receiver since they haven’t been able to find one since Tyreek Hill’s departure. Rashee Rice shows a lot of potential but he’s going through some offseason troubles so he’s missing time this upcoming season. This leaves an inexperienced Xavier Worthy and a first-year Marquise Brown leading the way but no one should expect anything special as things have to gel together to build chemistry.
Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers have been active this offseason since releasing two of their top pass-catchers, Mike Williams and Keenan Allen. However, they need an elite playmaker to help Ladd McConkey continue to develop as a potential talent. He’s showing some promise in practicing with Justin Herbert but it’s going to take more than adding DJ Chark to the mix as he’s a temporary solution for a long-term wound. Jim Harbaugh should consider adding a young talent like Sutton who has experience that can develop into a top pass-catcher like Williams and Allen were.
Carolina Panthers
Adam Thielen is getting older so this means the Panthers have to start thinking about getting some homegrown receivers to help Bryce Young’s development. Diontae Johnson is an effective addition but he isn’t getting any younger so adding one more young talent would help bolster this offense back into playoff contention
