Jared Goff Dynasty Outlook

Previously, few fantasy football owners wanted Jared Goff as their QB1.

After a disappointing debut with the then-rebuilding Detriot Lions in 2021, Goff remained an afterthought on most dynasty draft boards. But two solid seasons later, things are changing as Goff continues to solidify himself as more than a mid-tier quarterback option.

With a surplus of playmakers on a young, rising team, Goff in 2024 could finalize his evolution from a Los Angeles Rams reject to one of the NFL’s elite offensive performers.

Explosive Weapons Make Jared Goff Dangerous

Goff is set up for success in 2024.  Just look at the players who are expected to line up around him.

On the flanks, Amon-Ra St. Brown likely will be a top-10 overall pick in most leagues. If expected WR2 Jameson Williams develops into a consistent deep threat, the third-year receiver may finally catch up to his potential. And add to Goff’s value.

Along the line, sophomore Sam LaPorta should continue to rise among the league’s top tight ends.

The Lions were forced to swap out All-Pro-caliber left guard, Kevin Zeitler for Jonah Jackson, but continuity should allow the offensive line to operate as a top-five unit.

At running back, the Lions can choose between two unique contributors, grinder David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs, one of the league’s top two-way threats.

Goff completed 407 of 605 passes for 4,575 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions last season. Still, some league insiders believe Goff’s fantasy ranking remains undervalued.

Lions In Line To Receive On-Field Dividends

As part of the 2021 trade that sent ex-Lions QB Matthew Stafford to Los Angeles, Goff went east and received a rude reception. Making 14 starts for the Lions, Goff mostly struggled during coach Dan Campbell’s first-year regime. The Lions finished 3-10-1 after going winless in their opening 11 outings.

Fans called for the front office to buy out Goff’s contract. Or just release the 2016 first-overall draft pick. Campbell remained patient and was rewarded last winter with an NFC North title and two playoff wins. Despite his inability to scramble for additional yards – and fantasy points – Goff should continue to average around 20 fantasy points per start. That’s what he has done the past two seasons.

A Pro Bowler for two of his first three NFL seasons, Goff guided the Rams to a Super Bowl LIII appearance, but eventually fell out of favor with the franchise, prompting the deal for Stafford. The Rams earned immediate dividends on the deal with a victory in Super Bowl LVI.

The Lions had their Super Bowl shot but fell to the San Francisco 49ers after leading 24-7, at halftime of the 2023 NFL Championship game. Entering training camp, they must prove they possess enough on-field leadership to overcome the second-half collapse. That’s where Goff comes in after signing a four-year, $212 million contract extension on May 13

In his climb from a middling mid-tier quarterback option to an elite fantasy points producer, Goff still could provide late first-round value during upcoming dynasty drafts.
