Justin Simmons Free Agent

AFC Contender Could Target Top Remaining Free Agent

The Tennessee Titans have invested in many a free agent, and safety Justin Simmons could be the next player to join the club. Following a 6-11 season that resulted in the end of the Mike Vrabel Era, first-year head coach Brian Callahan has spent the offseason building the team in his vision. With big-name additions like L’Jarius Sneed, Calvin Ridley, and Lloyd Cushenberry, Tennessee should improve if Will Levis makes the Year 2 leap. However, one report indicates that the Titans might not be done on the open market.

During a recent interview, Callahan discussed remaining holes on the roster and said there’s “room to add” at the safety position. While he didn’t name any individual player, it’s safe to assume he was speaking about two-time Pro Bowler Justin Simmons, the best free agent safety on the market.

Titans Looking At Safety Help, Could Target Justin Simmons

Justin Simmons needs a new home, and the Titans are the perfect free agent fit. Last year, the team sent Kevin Byard to the Philadelphia Eagles at the trade deadline and recently lost K’Von Wallace to the Seahawks in free agency. While Amani Hooker is still around, this team could use another big-name player to take away the deep part of the field, especially since they share a division with C.J. Stroud and the Houston Texans.

So far, Justin Simmons appears content to wait out the free agent market until he receives a high offer or won’t have to endure the long, grueling offseason summer practices. With over $26.8 million in cap space, Tennessee can afford to bring him in, but they won’t be the only teams involved in the bidding war.

Other Potential Suitors

Indianapolis Colts

The Colts will be playoff contenders with a healthy Anthony Richardson, but if they want to go on a deep postseason run, they’ll need to do something about the safety position. While the team retained Julian Blackmon, they could still use an upgrade on Nick Cross. Justin Simmons is the ideal free agent fit who should give Indianapolis one of the better secondaries in the league.

Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens use more three-safety looks than any other team in the league. Kyle Hamilton is perhaps the best box safety in the league, and Marcus Williams is a reliable do-everything player. However, they still need a Geno Smith replacement, and Justin Simmons could be an upgrade as a free agent. With the longtime Bronco supporting the back end, opposing offenses will have no weak link to attack.

New Orleans Saints

The Saints might not have the money to sign Justin Simmons to a new contract, but they should still be doing their due diligence on the free agent. New Orleans parted ways with Marcus Maye earlier in the offseason and has yet to find a proper replacement. Tyrann Mathieu is better off in the box, and bringing in Simmons will allow both safeties to play to their strengths.

Buffalo Bills

Chances are, the Bills will use their post-June 1st savings to go after a wide receiver on the trade market. However, if they strike out there, they could try and sign Justin Simmons as a free agent. Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer are gone, which means Buffalo’s secondary will look different in 2024. Simmons can take the proverbial torch from those two and continue the tradition of elite safety play in Buffalo.

Carolina Panthers

The Panthers aren’t done trying to compete in 2024, as they’ve added multiple short-term free agents and are trying to sign another one. While cornerback appears to be their main target, they could still use another safety. Justin Simmons is the best free agent on the market and Carolina has not shied away from handing out big deals throughout the offseason.
