$72 million Pro Bowler and wide receiver, DK Metcalf may move on from the Seattle Seahawks in a blockbuster trade this offseason. Rumors are heating up since the Steelers are working the phones in an attempt to land a top-flight receiver. The other receivers they’re reaching out to are Brandon Aiyuk and Courtland Sutton, it seems like they haven’t been able to land one since trading Diontae Johnson to the Panthers. However, Metcalf sounds like an intriguing option for the Steelers due to his previous connection with Russell Wilson.
Adding any of these receivers would bolster the Steelers’ offense since trading away their veteran offensive piece. The Metcalf trade would make sense since the team is rebuilding under new head coach Mike Macdonald, but their starters remain intact. However, it would be smart if the Seahawks wouldn’t move on from the two-time Pro Bowler but for the right price, it is possible. One source says they expect a Metcalf trade to happen after the post-June 1 designation which gives teams help to free dead money that could count against the team after their release.
Aiyuk and Sutton have a higher chance of being traded this offseason than Metcalf due to the team’s salary cap constraints. However, one could consider that the Metcalf trade discussions can become interesting, especially the Pro Bowler not voicing concern over his contract. It would be a huge shock since the Stefon Diggs trade to the Texans, leaving everyone thinking that any trade is possible for the right price. Seattle would clear $17 million in 2024 cap space if the Pro Bowler is traded after June 1, and $22 million in 2025.

What Does the Future look like?
The Steelers won’t be the last team to reach out to the Seattle Seahawks for a trade. If it means restoring their receiving corps, they’ll be ready to offer a deal that the Seahawks won’t be able to resist. It’s unclear what type of substantial package deal the Steelers would send but the Seahawks are not trading Metcalf. The Seahawks shut down any talks from the Steelers reaching out to the Pro Bowler.
There were even rumors swirling before this year’s draft that the Steelers were trying to obtain Tyler Lockett in a trade. It seems like Pittsburgh is getting desperate to find their next playmaker for their franchise quarterback. Many talking heads shouldn’t blame the Steelers for wanting to have a complete team for their quarterback competition. Wilson and Justin Fields will be competing for the starting job this training camp so they’re trying to bring the best.
The Metcalf trade would only make sense if the Seahawks were to obtain at least three first-round picks. This is the bottom line of making it happen. History would be in the making if Lockett would somehow reunite with Wilson in Pittsburgh. It would probably make headlines bigger than the Diggs trade. Here are other team trade fits that make sense for Metcalf.
Trade Fits for Metcalf
The Chargers, Saints and Ravens seem like the only reasonable teams that could be in the market for a trade. Los Angeles was able to sign DJ Chark to a one-year deal but nothing compares to Metcalf. He’s the type of player to turn Justin Herbert like Patrick Mahomes which could be their answer to get a Super Bowl. The Saints weren’t able to get a receiver this year until the fifth round of this year’s draft so they don’t have any proven receiving talent.
However, the Ravens are one injury from a disaster on their wideout corps. Odell Beckham Jr. is moving on to Miami so this means they need a veteran replacement. Metcalf not only has experience but he could be the missing piece to Lamar Jackson’s journey to a ring.
