John Franklin-Myers Trade

AFC Contender Sends 19-Sack Edge Defender To Conference Foe

According to a report by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the New York Jets have agreed to trade edge defender John Franklin-Myers to the Denver Broncos. In exchange, Gang Green will receive a 2026 sixth-round pick. Franklin-Myers started his career with the Los Angeles Rams but spent the past four seasons with the Jets.

Broncos, Jets, Agree to John Franklin-Myers Trade

John Franklin-Myers trade rumors have been swarming ever since the New York Jets acquired Haason Reddick from the Philadelphia Eagles. With cap space at a premium, New York decided to send away the veteran for essentially nothing while freeing up approximately $7.3 million in cap space.

John Franklin-Myers originally joined the NFL as a fourth-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Selected by the Los Angeles Rams, the S.F. Austin product spent the majority of his rookie campaign in a reserve role. Appearing in all 16 games, Franklin-Myers finished the 2018 season with two sacks, 10 tackles, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.

After failing to make the Rams roster in 2019, Franklin-Myers quickly landed with New York. However, he couldn’t see the field and spent most of the season on the injured reserve. Fortunately, he saved his career with a strong 2020. Appearing in 15 games while making two starts, John Franklin-Myers recorded three sacks, 19 tackles, five tackles-for-loss, and 13 quarterback hits. He earned a starting job early in 2021 and signed a three-year, $55 million extension midway through the season. He immediately rewarded that trust by recording six sacks, 35 tackles, six tackles-for-loss, and 14 quarterback hits while starting in 16 games.

Despite the trade, John Franklin-Myers remained productive in 2022 and 2023, recording 8.5 sacks over that two-year frame. Since entering the league, the former fourth-round pick has appeared in 81 games while making 52 starts. While on the field, the S.F. Austin product has recorded 19.5 sacks, 135 tackles, 21 tackles-for-loss, and 61 quarterback hits.
