Possible Trade Up Scenario for the Indianapolis Colts

The Indianapolis Colts should do whatever it takes to trade up and land Marvin Harrison Jr. in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Marvin Harrison Jr. is considered the top wide receiver prospect in the 2024 NFL Draft. Could he end up with the Indianapolis Colts?

The teams with the top three picks in the draft (Chicago Bears, Washington Commanders, and New England Patriots) are all expected to select a quarterback. That means Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, and Drake Maye (in no particular order) will likely be the first three players selected.

After that, Harrison is expected to go fourth overall to the Arizona Cardinals. There’s a zero percent chance he slips to No. 15, where the Colts are currently slated to select in the first round. With that said, Indianapolis will have to trade up to get him.

Megastar at Ohio State

Harrison spent three seasons with the Ohio State Buckeyes. He was a two-time Unanimous All-American and won the Fred Biletnikoff Award in 2023.

Harrison saw limited action as a freshman, playing behind future first-round draft picks Garrett Wilson, Chris Olave, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba. He caught only five passes for 68 yards during the regular season but had six receptions for 71 yards and three touchdowns in the Rose Bowl. As a sophomore, he recorded 77 receptions for 1,263 yards and 14 touchdowns.

This past season, Harrison caught 67 passes for 1,211 and 14 TDs. He also finished fourth in Heisman voting behind Daniels, Michael Penix Jr., and Bo Nix.

Why the Colts Should Do Whatever It Takes to Land Marvin Harrison Jr.

Marvin Harrison Jr.’s father, Marvin Harrison, is a Colts legend. The Hall of Fame receiver played his entire career in Indianapolis and helped Peyton Manning and Co. win Super Bowl XLI. Colts fans would love to see their team acquire Harrison Jr. The move would make them reminisce about the good ole days.

The Colts would have to give up a lot to land Harrison, though. Trading up from 15th overall to No. 4 is a big deal. Realistically, they’d probably have to surrender their first-round pick and second-rounder this year as well as a 2025 first-pick.

While that’s quite a bit to give up, it’s worth it. Harrison has the potential to be a larger-than-life NFL superstar and would be the perfect addition to the Colts’ roster.

Quarterback Anthony Richardson is coming off an injury-riddled rookie year. Fortunately, he should return to the field 100 percent healthy next season. The former Florida Gator needs to be surrounded by big-time playmaking offensive weapons. He’ll have that in running back Jonathan Taylor and receivers Michael Pittman Jr. (who was franchise-tagged), Josh Downs and Alec Pierce.

Adding a dynamic wideout like Harrison to the group would help take the Colts to the next level. The Philadelphia native possesses a combination of speed, agility, and exceptional route running. Plus, his catching ability and body control enable him to make extremely difficult catches.

The Colts barely missed the playoffs this past season. Acquiring Harrison could help the team get over the hump in 2024, especially if Richardson stays healthy. Richardson and Harrison could also develop into the league’s next elite QB-WR duo. With these two promising young players leading the way, it wouldn’t take long for the Colts to emerge as a contender.
