REPORT: 1,000-Yard Running Back Signs Contract With Chicago Bears

Four-year NFL veteran running back D’Andre Swift has signed a new contract with the Chicago Bears. Swift, a one-time Pro Bowler, spent the 2023 season with the Philadelphia Eagles but has also played for the Detroit Lions.

REPORT: D’Andre Swift, Chicago Bears, Agree to Contract

D’Andre Swift had a career year during the final season of his rookie contract. After a disappointing finish to the 2022 campaign, the Detroit Lions traded Swift to the Philadelphia Eagles after they selected Jahmyr Gibbs in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft. The first-year Eagle spent the first week of the season behind Kenneth Gainwell but quickly earned the starting job and never relinquished the role. Appearing in 16 games while making 15 starts, the running back finished the season with 1,049 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 229 carries to go along with 39 receptions for 214 yards and an additional score. This impressive season earned Swift a spot on the Pro Bowl roster for the first time in his career.

Swift originally entered the NFL as a second-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Selected by the Detroit Lions, the Georgia product spent his inaugural season splitting carries with Adrian Peteran and Kerryon Johnson. Appearing in 13 games while making four starts, D’Andre Swift finished the year with 114 carries for 521 yards and eight touchdowns. While he received fewer touches than Peterson, he was notably more efficient and appeared poised for a big role in 2021. However, the team signed Jamaal Williams in 2022 and used him as the featured back.

The two running backs split work evenly in 2021, as D’Andre Swift finished the year with 617 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 151 carries to go along with 62 receptions for 452 yards and a touchdown. In 2022, however, Williams emerged as the clear lead back, recording 1,066 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns. D’Andre Swift, meanwhile, had just 542 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 99 carries.

Since signing his rookie contract, D’Andre Swift has appeared in 56 games while making 31 starts. While on the field, the running back has recorded 2,729 rushing yards and 23 touchdowns on 593 attempts.
