Week 2 Fantasy Football Tight End Rankings

Tier 1: Week Winners

  1. Travis Kelce
  2. Mark Andrews

Both Kelce and Andrews didn’t play last week. However, assuming they return for Week 2, they are the clear top options. Both of their offenses struggled heavily in their absence, and they should see huge volume this week. They are the only two tight ends that have no question marks – if they’re playing, you start them.

Tier 2: Solid Starters

  1. Darren Waller
  2. T.J. Hockensen
  3. Dallas Goedert
  4. Evan Engram

Darren Waller managed 6.6 PPR points in a game that the Giants lost 40-0. He seemed to be Daniel Jones’ top target and has a great matchup against the Cardinals. It was an inefficient game for T.J. Hockensen last week, but the target volume was great. However, he falls out of the top three in this week’s tight ends rankings due to the Eagles defense.

Dallas Goedert failed to catch a pass and received just one target against the Patriots. He’s been a very consistent option for the last two years, so that was probably a fluke. Evan Engram had a solid game and was still targeted five times despite the Calvin Ridley addition. Jacksonville will likely be in a shootout against Kansas City, giving Engram a good chance at a touchdown this week.

Tier 3: Back-end TE1s

  1. George Kittle
  2. Kyle Pitts
  3. Hunter Henry
  4. David Njoku
  5. Tyler Higbee
  6. Pat Freiermuth

George Kittle had just 19 yards against the Steelers. However, he saw the third most targets on the team. Kyle Pitts led the Falcons in yards, but only had three targets, as Atlanta is determined to run the ball as much as possible. Mac Jones was forced to throw over 50 times, and Hunter Henry benefited greatly. New England may be forced to throw often against Miami as well, which pushes Henry into this tier of tight end rankings.

David Njoku had just three targets, but Deshaun Watson didn’t throw the ball a lot. Tyler Higbee was outshined by Puka Nacua and Tutu Atwell but still had a decent game. However, San Francisco is a better defense than Seattle. With the injury to Diontae Johnson, Kenny Pickett may look Pat Freiermuth’s way more often in Week 2.

Tier 4: Streaming Options

  1. Sam LaPorta
  2. Cole Kmet
  3. Dalton Kincaid
  4. Hayden Hurst

Detroit Lions rookie Sam LaPorta had a very good debut, catching five passes. However, they went for just 39 yards. Cole Kmet is playing a tough Tampa Bay defense, but he caught five passes in Week 1 and tied for the team lead in targets.

Dalton Kincaid, another rookie, had just 26 yards, but caught four passes and has a top-tier quarterback. Hayden Hurst was the TE2 last week and saw 7 targets. It remains to be seen if that level of usage is consistent though. If it is, Hurst will skyrocket up the tight end rankings this season.

Tier 5: Dart Throws

  1. Juwan Johnson
  2. Luke Musgrave
  3. Gerald Everett
  4. Dalton Schultz

Juwan Johnson is considered by many to be a breakout candidate, and Derek Carr targeted him five times in Week 1. Luke Musgrave had a good first game, catching three passes for 50 yards. However, if Christian Watson returns this week, Musgrave may see even less volume.

The Chargers ran much more than expected, hurting their pass-catchers. Everett still only received three targets, and Donald Parham Jr. was able to put up a better stat line. Dalton Schultz had just two catches for four yards and doesn’t look like a priority target for C.J. Stroud.
