In their first season in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), as a member of the Sun Belt Conference, the James Madison Dukes were led to an 8-3 record thanks in large part to the play of quarterback Todd Centeio. Centeio played six seasons of college football (including the Covid-19 shortened season of 2020), at three different schools (Temple, Colorado State, and James Madison University).
During the 2017 season at Temple, Centeio saw very little action during the season appearing in two games and completing two passes for the Owls. In his second season with the Owls, Centeio played 11 games going 12/18, for 149 yards, and throwing two touchdowns, with zero interceptions. In his third year in the City of Brotherly Love, Centeio was 34/51, for 444 yards, five touchdowns, and one interception. After the 2019 season, Centeio transferred to Colorado State.
In the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, Centeio was 14/36, for 207 yards, with one touchdown and one interception. In his second season with the Rams, Centeio played in 12 games going 229/380, for 2958 yards, with 15 touchdown passes and 10 interceptions. After the season, Centeio transferred back east to James Madison University. In his lone season with the Dukes Centeio was 181/284, for 2,697 yards, with an eye-popping 25 touchdowns against just five interceptions, in only 10 games.

- Fits the ball into tight spaces;
- Ratio of touchdowns to interceptions; does not throw many picks.

- Throws the ball late in the play, often;
- Does not always get into a passer-ready position, when throwing.

Bottom Line on Todd Centeio
Centeio has an NFL-caliber arm. He also does not turn the ball over a lot, which will appeal to a lot of teams. Though he has a big arm, he still needs to work on his accuracy and getting the ball where it needs to be before it can be knocked down/batted down/intercepted. He will need to work on throwing off his front foot and try to break the habit of consistently throwing off his back foot.
While he would not be the shortest quarterback in the league, he is three inches shorter than today’s NFL quarterbacks, which may turn some teams off. Centeio will likely be a seventh-round pick or an undrafted free agent. Being a seventh-round pick worked out well for Brock Purdy, last season, and who is to say that the same thing could not happen to Centeio this season (as improbable as it likely is)? Centeio can be a third-string quarterback, adding depth to a team, or could catch on with a practice squad, and work his way up the depth chart in the next few seasons. A lot of teams should be interested in Centeio’s services, considering his touchdown-to-interceptions ratio.
