After receiving a second-round tender in the offseason, Azeez Al-Shaair returned to the San Francisco 49ers on a one-year contract for the 2022 season. While injuries limited him to just 12 games, Al-Shaair remained productive when on the field. Making nine starts in his 12 games, the linebacker finished the season with 44 tackles, one tackle-for-loss, one quarterback hit, and one fumble recovery while playing on one of the best defenses in the entire league. The 49ers made it all the way to the NFC Championship Game before falling to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Azeez Al-Shaair originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent following the 2019 NFL Draft. Signing with the San Francisco 49ers, the Florida Atlantic product managed to earn a spot on the Week 1 roster. San Francisco made it all the way to the Super Bowl, but lost in heartbreaking fashion to the Kansas City Chiefs. While Al-Shaair earned a larger role in 2020, he still primarily remained a backup. Appearing in all 16 games while making five starts, the linebacker ended his second season with 35 tackles, one tackle-for-loss, one quarterback hit, one interception, two passes defended, and one forced fumble.

Now entering the final season of his rookie contract, Azeez Al-Shaair responded with the best season of his career. Earning a full-time starting job, the linebacker played in 13 games during the season, recording 102 tackles, nine tackles-for-loss, two quarterback hits, one interception, five passes defended, and one forced fumble. All of these marked matched or exceeded previous career highs.

Since signing his rookie contract, Azeez Al-Shaair has played in 56 games while making 31 starts. During his time on the field, the former undrafted free agent has recorded 199 tackles, 11 tackles-for-loss, four quarterback hits, and two sacks.
