The 2022 Denver Broncos did not play up to their talent level on offense, but their defense was exactly as advertised. Dre’Mont Jones was a big part of that success, as the defensive lineman started all 13 games in which he played while recording 6.5 sacks, 47 tackles, nine tackles-for-loss, 10 quarterback hits, and one forced fumble. The sacks, tackles, and tackles-for-loss all set or matched career highs for Jones.
Dre’Mont Jones originally entered the NFL as a third-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. Selected by the Denver Broncos, the Ohio State product began his career as a rotational member of the defensive front. Appearing in 14 games while making one start, the defensive lineman finished the year with 3.5 sacks, 14 tackles, three tackles-for-loss, six quarterback hits, one interception, and two passes defended. Despite the strong play of the defense, Jones and the Broncos failed to make the playoffs.
Jones earned a larger role in the following season. Appearing in 13 games while making eight starts, the Ohio State product recorded a career-high 6.5 sacks, 41 tackles, seven tackles-for-loss, and 11 quarterback hits. However, the team finished 7-9 and missed the playoffs for the second time in Jones’ professional career.
The Denver Broncos added Teddy Bridgewater in the offseason to try and improve the offense. The change didn’t work, and Denver missed the playoffs once again. However, despite the poor offense, Jones continued to improve on defense. Appearing in 16 games while making seven starts, the defensive lineman finished the season with 5.5 sacks, 31 tackles, nine tackles-for-loss, 11 quarterback hits, two passes defended, and one forced fumble.
Since signing his rookie contract, Dre’Mont Jones has recorded 22 sacks, 133 tackles, 28 tackles-for-loss, and 38 quarterback hits in 56 games.
