Chris Godwin is entering his sixth year in the NFL as a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Godwin’s 2021 season was cut short due to a knee injury suffered on December 19th against the New Orleans Saints. Godwin avoided the PUP list at the start of training camp. But there is still speculation as to whether he will be ready for the start of the 2022 season.

Godwin led the Bucs in catches, targets, and yards in 2021 as their number one receiver. Godwin suffered a torn ACL in week 15 against the Saints. He finished the season as WR15, at the time of his injury he was on pace to finish as WR6. He alongside Mike Evans (fantasy outlook for 2022), Antonio Brown, and Rob Gronkowski put together the number one passing offense in the league. The Bucs led the NFL in passing yards, touchdowns, completions, and attempts in 2021. In the two seasons that Tom Brady has been on the Bucs, they have averaged over 300 passing yards per game and over 40 touchdown passes per season. Godwin has played in 26 regular season games with Tom Brady in half of those games he has led the Bucs receivers in targets.
Chris Godwin Fantasy Football 2022 Outlook
Godwin’s fantasy football outlook for this season is dependent on his health. He avoided the PUP list this offseason but there is speculation surrounding if he will be ready for the season or not. The Bucs lost Brown and Gronkowski in the offseason. But they added Russell Gage and Julio Jones to add depth to the position. Gage is a solid second receiver and Jones isn’t the same guy that he use to be but he is nowhere near washed at this point. The Bucs were the number one passing offense in 2021, and with Brady and Byron Leftwich returning, there’s no reason why that shouldn’t continue in 2022.

The Bucs lost two offensive linemen to retirement and free agency this offseason. They also lost Center Ryan Jensen to a knee injury at the start of training camp. Godwin has mainly lined up in the slot as the underneath receiver while Evans handles most of the downfield work. That gives Godwin an edge this season with the O-line injuries, he should rack up plenty of short area targets. The Bucs also play seven of the top 15 offenses from 2021, this will lead to higher scoring games and more opportunities for Godwin.

Godwin is currently going as WR21 in the fifth round of 12-team PPR leagues. Without the injury uncertainty, he would be considered a second-round pick and a top-ten fantasy wide receiver. But due to that, he is in the fifth round at the moment. He has a positive outlook that he should be available within the first couple of weeks of the season. With that in mind getting him in the fourth or fifth round right now is a steal. With more positive news Godwin’s ADP can bump up quite a bit in the coming weeks before the start of the season.
