The Green Bay Packers have traded star wide receiver Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders in return for a first and second-round pick. Adams had spent the entirety of his career with the Packers up to this point.

This is an unexpected move that further bolsters an already stacked AFC West and gives Derek Carr likely his best wideout ever, and certainly his best since he had Amari Cooper. The Packers had initially given Adams the franchise tag, which he refused to sign and which presumably led to this. After the trade, the Raiders are giving Adams a five-year extension worth $141 million which will make him the highest-paid receiver in the league.

For the Packers part, this leaves them without a clear number one receiver. Aaron Rodgers was apparently aware of all of this even before he signed his extension to remain with Green Bay. Since they are getting nothing but draft picks in return, the question now is if they will sign a new receiver or two in free agency or trade for one.

Adams was drafted by the Packers in 2014 and remained a depth piece in the midst of a more stacked receiving corps up until 2016 when he finally broke out with 75 receptions for 997 yards and 12 touchdowns. His breakout as a top-tier receiver came in 2018 when he had 111 receptions for 1,386 yards and 13 touchdowns. He finished with 18 touchdowns in 2020 and is coming off a career year in 2021 with 123 receptions for 1,553 yards and 11 touchdowns. He has made the Pro Bowl every year since 2017 and went All-Pro in 2020 and 2021. Adams will be looking to keep his elite numbers going in the years to come with Derek Carr and the Raiders.

Thus far in his career, Adams has a total of 669 receptions for 8,121 yards and 73 touchdowns.
