NFL veteran quarterback Marcus Mariota signed a new two-year contract with the Atlanta Falcons. Mariota spent the last two seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders and has also played for the Tennessee Titans.

Marcus Mariota, Atlanta Falcons, Agree to Contract
As a member of the Raiders, Mariota spent the last two seasons as the backup to Derek Carr. Carr stayed healthy for all of 2021, therefore Mariota’s playing time was limited. He threw for only four passing yards on the season. He did, however, get involved in the wildcat and other formations that saw him rush the ball 13 times for 87 yards and a touchdown. During the 2020 season, Mariota attempted 28 passes, completing 17 for 226 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. While a short sample size, Mariota showed himself to be a very valuable piece to the Raiders game plan.
The former Oregon Duck joined the Raiders after five up and down seasons as the starting quarterback for the Tennessee Titans. Mariota started 61 games for the Titans. During that time, he compiled a win/loss record of 29-32. His touchdown to interception ratio was approximately 1.5 to 1. His single-season career-high for touchdown passes is 26 which occurred during the 2016 season, his sophomore campaign. One of his greatest weapons has always been his ability to break free from the pocket and run the ball. He ran for a total of 1399 yards during his five years with the Titans, 87 of which came on a single run during his rookie season in 2015. A huge knock on Mariota during his time with the Titans was the number of sacks he took. He was sacked 155 times during his five years in Tennessee.
Time in the NFL hasn’t always been the easiest for Mariota. He dealt with two Head Coaches during his first three seasons in Tennessee. Not only that, throw in four Offensive Coordinators in five seasons and you can imagine the difficulty Mariota had trying to establish any sort of consistency. Time spent with the Raiders allowed Mariota to watch and learn from Carr.
