NFL tight end Evan Engram has signed a one-year, $9 million deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The 27-year-old will be entering his sixth season, having spent his first five with the New York Giants.
Former Giants’ TE Evan Engram intends to sign a one-year, fully-guaranteed 9 million deal that could go to $10 with incentives with the Jacksonville Jaguars, per me and @JFowlerESPN.

During the 2021 season, Evan Engram posted career-low numbers in numerous categories. His 408 yards receiving, 8.9 yards per reception and 27.2 yards per game all made for the worst single-season numbers of his career. Now, one could credit this to the up-and-down play that has plagued Engram’s career so far, except, the Giants offense was horrendous in 2021. With a rotating door at quarterback (Daniel Jones, Mike Glennon, Jake Fromm), it was difficult for the playmaker to find his footing. That being said, 2022 is set to offer Engram a clean slate.
Selected with the 23rd overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, the Ole Miss product has always had the potential to be a lethal offensive option. Engram stands at 6’3” and 240-pounds, playing more of the big slot role than a 12-personnel blocking tight end. His receiving ability has always been clear, although, his career-high in receiving yards (722) and touchdowns (6) both came during his rookie season. Since then, Engram has struggled to remain on the field, dealing with numerous injuries, on top of his dropped ball problems.
Yet, the hope still remains for Engram to revert back to his 2020 form. That season, Engram made the Pro Bowl, totaling 654 yards receiving on 63 receptions. In today’s pass-happy NFL, Engram is the exact type of big-bodied receiving threat every quarterback needs. Should Engram be able to stay healthy and control his drops (17 last two seasons), he could finally develop into the middle-of-the-field tight end the Giants originally thought they drafted.
