Dallas Cowboys Trade Amari Cooper to Cleveland Browns
Amari Cooper is coming off of yet another impressive season. Appearing in 15 games, the wide receiver finished the season with 68 receptions for 865 yards and eight touchdowns on 104 targets. The former first-round pick battled injuries throughout the year, and the Cowboys decided to move on from him and his $20 million cap hit.
Cooper originally entered the league as a first-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. Selected by the Oakland Raiders, Cooper and second-year quarterback Derek Carr immediately established a young connection. Starting and appearing in all 16 games, the wideout finished his rookie season with 72 receptions for 1,070 yards and six touchdowns on 130 targets. This performance earned him the first Pro Bowl selection of his career, and Cooper followed it up by recording 83 receptions for 1,153 yards and five touchdowns in 2016, earning another Pro Bowl selection in the process.
Cooper only played in 14 games during the 2017 season, but he still finished with 48 receptions for 680 yards and seven touchdowns. Cooper began the 2018 season with Oakland, recording 22 receptions for 280 yards and one touchdown before being traded to the Dallas Cowboys for a first-round pick.
Cooper played a huge role for the Cowboys down the stretch, as the receiver recorded 53 receptions for 725 yards and six touchdowns during nine games with the Cowboys. His impressive performance helped the team make it back to the playoffs, and his continued production over the next three years proved the end of 2018 wasn’t a fluke.
Throughout the course of his career, Amari Cooper has recorded 517 receptions for 7,076 yards and 46 touchdowns on 818 targets. The wide receiver is entering his age-28 season.
