Jacoby Brissett spent last season with the Miami Dolphins, following a four-year tenure with the Indianapolis Colts. He was originally drafted by Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft out of North Carolina State. The 29-year-old quarterback out of West Palm Beach, Florida initially committed to the University of Florida, where he played for two seasons, before transferring to North Carolina State. Attempting just 71 passes during his tenure at Florida, Brissett emerged onto the national stage in 2014 after he sat out in the 2013 season due to transfer rules. Brissett threw for 2,606 yards in his junior season with 23 touchdowns and just five interceptions. Brissett added 529 rushing yards as well, including 167 in a 35-7 victory against state-rival North Carolina. He backed up that season with an equally impressive 2015 campaign where he threw for 2,662 yards with 20 touchdowns and six interceptions. After declaring for the NFL draft, Brissett was drafted 91st overall by the Patriots.

In his rookie season, Brissett started two games for the Patriots due to Tom Brady’s four-game suspension as a result of Deflategate and a thumb injury to Jimmy Garoppolo. In his first career start, Brissett led the Patriots to a 27-0 win over the Houston Texans, where he threw for a conservative 103 yards. The Patriots were shutout, 16-0, by the Buffalo Bills the following week, when Brissett went 17 for 27 and threw for 205 yards. However, that off-season, Brissett was traded to the Colts in exchange for former first-round pick Phillip Dorsett

Over his four-year tenure with the Colts, Brissett started 15 games in two seasons and played sparingly in the other two. In 2017, after Andrew Luck was placed on IR following shoulder surgery, Brissett led the Colts to a 4-11 record, where he threw for 3,098 and 13 touchdowns. After backing up Luck in 2018, Brissett was again named the starter in 2019 following Luck’s retirement. Brissett played much better in 2019, completing 61% of his passes for 2,942 yards and 18 touchdowns, and four interceptions.

Finally, Brissett was the backup quarterback for Tua Tagovailoa in Miami in 2021 and started five games, where he and the Dolphins went 2-3.
