Longtime NFL veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor signed a new contract with the New York Giants. Taylor, a one-time Pro Bowl selection, spent the 2021 season with the Houston Texans but has also played for the Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, Cleveland Browns, and Los Angeles Chargers.

Tyrod Taylor, New York Giants, Agree to Contract
Tyrod Taylor entered his first season in Houston as the team’s Week 1 starting quarterback. The veteran journeyman led an impressive upset victory in Week 1, but injuries and ineffectiveness led to him only playing in six games. Serving primary as the backup to Davis Mills, Taylor finished his season completing 60.7% of his passes for 966 yards, five touchdowns, and five interceptions.
Taylor originally entered the NFL as a sixth-round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. Selected by the Baltimore Ravens, the Virginia Tech product spent his early days in the NFL as Joe Flacco’s backup. During his four years with the Ravens, Taylor attempted just 35 passes, completing 19 for 199 yards, and two interceptions.
Taylor first earned a chance to start in 2015. Signing with the Buffalo Bills in free agency, Taylor spent the offseason in a three-way quarterback competition between himself, Matt Cassel, and E.J. Manuel. Taylor ultimately won the job and started 14 games for Buffalo, completing 63.7% of his passes for 3,035 yards, 20 touchdowns, and six interceptions. While the Bills didn’t make the playoffs, Taylor did earn the first Pro Bowl nomination of his career.
Taylor remained Buffalo’s primary starter in 2016 and 2017 and even guided the team to the postseason in 2017. However, after the selection of Josh Allen in the 2018 NFL Draft, Taylor moved on and joined the Cleveland Browns. The quarterback started the first three games of the season before suffering an injury. Baker Mayfield then took over the starting job and never looked back.
Taylor spent 2019 as the backup quarterback in Los Angeles before earning a chance to start in 2020. However, once again, Taylor suffered an injury early in the season. And thus, the rookie quarterback took over the starting job from there.
