The 2021 season was a wild one for Sony Michel. After spending the majority of the offseason in New England, the Los Angeles Rams gave up a fourth-round pick to secure his rights just before the start of the season. Michel spent the majority of the season as the second-string running back, but stepped up when Darrell Henderson missed time to injury. From Weeks 13-18, Michel recorded 540 rushing yards on 129 carries (4.19 YPA) and three touchdowns to go along with 10 receptions for 66 yards. However, despite the strong performance, Michel returned to the bench for the playoffs once Cam Akers got up to speed.

Michel first entered the NFL as a first-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Selected by the New England Patriots, Michel quickly became the starting running back after Jeremy Hill tore his ACL in Week 1. Appearing in 13 games, the rookie recorded a career-high 935 rushing yards and six touchdowns on 209 carries. He brought his game up to another level in the postseason, recording 336 rushing yards and six touchdowns while helping the Patriots bring home their sixth title.

Michel returned as New England’s starter in 2019, but wasn’t able to recapture that rookie magic. Appearing in all 16 games, the Georgia product recorded 912 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on 247 carries (3.7 YPA) as New England’s offense took a step back during the final year of the Tom Brady Era. Injuries limited Michel to just nine games in 2020, but he still managed to record 449 rushing yards on just 79 carries (5.7 YPA) while on the field.

Throughout the course of his career, Michel has recorded 3,137 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns on 743 career carries (4.2 YPA).
