Week 5 Stream Team

It feels like we just blinked our eyes and it’s already Week 5 of the NFL season. Each week this column will analyze a player at each position rostered in 50 percent of Yahoo leagues or less. This group of players is basically a dream stream team. For reference, the threshold used for wins and losses in this article will be if the quarterbacks can score at least 17 points, if the tight ends can score at least eight PPR points, and if the rest can score at least 10 PPR points. Here is the Week 5 stream team.

Week 5 Stream Team

Quarterback – Trey Lance (SF – 30%) @ ARI

Now here is a fun one. Trey Lance will make his starting debut this week after Jimmy Garoppolo got injured. Expect Lance’s roster percentage to skyrocket and rightfully so. Admittedly, Lance didn’t look great in relief duty but that doesn’t matter for fantasy football purposes. He was still able to put up 20.38 fantasy points in spite of that in only a half of football. The floor and ceiling are sky-high because of his offensive weapons, the system he’s in, and most importantly, his ability to use his legs. Lance had seven carries for 41 yards in the second half alone. This week’s matchup is extremely enticing from a fantasy perspective. The Arizona Cardinals are one of the best (and fastest-paced) offenses in football and are favored by 5.5 points in this one. The game total is one of the highest of the week at 50 combined points, the fourth-highest of the weekend. This game is also in a dome which helps boost passing games. All signs point to a monster fantasy game for Trey Lance. Lance makes for not only one of the best Week 5 stream team options, but also a great option for the rest of the year if he’s able to keep the starting job, in spite of Kyle Shanahan’s comments.

Honorable Mentions – Taylor Heinicke (WFT – 10%) v NO, Daniel Jones (NYG – 31%) @ DAL

Running Back – Damien Williams (CHI – 9%) @ LV

David Montgomery was playing like a man possessed on Sunday until an ugly-looking knee injury forced him from the game. Fortunately, it sounds as if he avoided a season-ending injury but he’s still likely to miss at least a few weeks. Damien Williams will take over the majority of the snaps and touches while Montgomery is out. In relief this week Williams racked up 70 total yards and a score on his way to 15 fantasy points. He’s shown he can be a good fantasy option when given the role as he can handle both the ground work and the passing game usage. This week Williams gets a great matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders. The Raiders are nothing to fear on defense so he should be able to do perfectly fine as long as he sees at least 12 carries and three targets. Keep an eye on his injury status as the week progresses though as he suffered a thigh injury as well but it shouldn’t be anything to worry about. As long as Williams is healthy enough to play, he makes for one of the best Week 5 Stream Team options.

Honorable Mentions – Latavius Murray (BAL – 47%) v IND, J.D. McKissic (WFT – 39%) v NO

Wide Receiver – A.J. Green (ARI – 24%) v SF

“Dusty” and “washed” have been two of the most popular terms to describe A.J. Green since the beginning of 2020. That may be true and it may just be the Cardinals’ offense squeezing the last bit of juice out of him. Either way, he’s now scored at least 13.4 fantasy points in three straight games. Green has played the second-most snaps of all the Cardinals wide receivers and he’s seen six targets in all four games this season. This week’s matchup against the San Francisco 49ers is a good one. The 49ers aren’t a matchup to target specifically but aren’t one to shy away from either. Their secondary has been beatable all season. As previously mentioned, the Cardinals are one of the best and fastest-paced offenses in the NFL and this matchup has one of the higher combined totals on the weekend. As long as Green continues to play around 80% of the snaps, this should be a good enough game environment for him to get it done.

Honorable Mentions – DeVante Parker (MIA – 38%) @ TB, Hunter Renfrow (LV – 26%) v CHI

Tight End – Dawson Knox (BUF – 47%) @ KC

The first back-to-back featured player of the year award goes to none other than the TE5 on the year (as of this writing heading into Monday Night Football) Dawson Knox. Knox being a top-five tight end is exactly how everyone drew it up. He’s been getting it done mostly every week now as he’s scored at least 8.10 fantasy points in every game this season. Knox has also seen at least four targets in three games so far. He’s really turned it on the past two weeks with 14.90 and 20.70 fantasy points. He’s also now up to four touchdowns on the season too. Relying on touchdown production is never a great bet, but at the tight end position, sometimes that’s how it goes. While Knox is usually fourth at best in the pecking order for the Buffalo Bills, it could be a lot worse than being the fourth option on a team that passes as much as the Bills do. This week against the Kansas City Chiefs should be no different. The Bills are 2.5-point underdogs and this game has the highest combined total on the weekend at 56.5 points. It wouldn’t be surprising at all to see Josh Allen throw the ball 50+ times in this one and Knox could be a beneficiary of that.

Honorable Mentions – Dalton Schultz (DAL – 33%) v NYG, Evan Engram (NYG – 34%) @ DAL
