Cam Newton Rumors

Cam Newton is perhaps the biggest free agent on the market, but he might have to wait a bit before finding a new home. According to the latest NFL rumors, the Dallas Cowboys are not interested in making Cam Newton their backup. In other news, Jerry Jones weighed in on Buffalo’s potential move, while Tom Brady doesn’t sound like he plans on retiring any time soon.

NFL Rumors: Cam Newton, Buffalo Bills Stadium, Tom Brady

The New England Patriots shocked the world when they released quarterback Cam Newton. Despite the selection of Mac Jones, Newton still received the vast majority of the first-team work and was widely believed to be the favorite to start in Week 1. However, Jones won the job, leaving Newton to find a new gig with one of the 31 other teams.

Newton might have to settle for life as a backup, but that opportunity won’t be coming with the Dallas Cowboys. Speaking to reporters, head coach Mike McCarthy said that the team will not be going after Newton. The team has evaluated Newton and apparently feels that the quarterback isn’t a notable upgrade from Cooper Rush or Will Grier.

While on the airwaves, Jerry Jones addressed how the team came to that evaluation. While he never specifically said whether or not he talked to Bill Belichick regarding Newton, Jones did say that “Cam Newton is not playing because everybody has evaluated it and they’ve made a decision” while adding that it was “very, very easy” for the Cowboys to evaluate Cam.

Reading between the lines, it looks as though the Cowboys are simply relying on their own self-scouting in this case. Newton clearly isn’t the player he once was, but he is still considerably better than Cooper Rush and Will Grier. It’s entirely possible that Newton’s vaccination status is a factor, although Jones would never admit to such a thing.

Jerry Jones Hopes Bills Stay In Buffalo

The Bills want a new stadium, and they’re willing to leave Buffalo if they don’t get one. Teams are constantly moving around in today’s day and age, with other owners generally approving the moves. Jerry Jones, however, seems to hope the Bills find a way to stay in their current home.

Noting that Buffalo is “a special place”, Jones likened the Bills to Green Bay in that both franchises have survived the test of time in smaller markets.

It’s hard to imagine a world without Buffalo football, as Bills fans are notorious for being some of the most passionate in the game. Hopefully, the city and team will be come to an agreement to keep the Bills in Buffalo for the foreseeable future.

Jones might genuinely want the Bills to stay in Buffalo, but he also has a financial reason to hope the Bills don’t find a new city. Back in June, the Bills hired Legends to represent the Bills. Legends is co-owned by Jones, so he’d lose a decent chunk of change if the Bills end up moving.

Tom Brady Hoping to Be In Tampa For “A Long Time”

Despite being 44 years old, Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady has no interest in retiring any time soon. While the quarterback has admittedly he’s closer to the end of his career than the beginning, Brady recently said that he’s hoping to be with Tampa Bay “for a long time”. Brady, of course, won the Super Bowl while ranking near the top of just about passing category and has shown no signs of slowing down.

The seven-time Super Bowl champion is currently under contract for the next two seasons and seems to be enjoying life as a Florida man. Saying that “it’s been so much better” than what he could’ve imagined, he says that he loves the city of Tampa as well as the year-round fantastic climate. After playing 20 years in the Northeast, who can blame him?
