Burrow has been on record stating that he “thinks” he will be ready for the September 12th opener against the Minnesota Vikings. Today, we got confirmation from Dr. Neal ElAttrache, the man who reconstructed the left knee of the 2020 first-overall pick. ElAttrache sites Burrow’s maturity and dedication to the current positive report.
Burrow suffered the devastating knee injury on November 22nd against the Washington Football Team, leaving many fans to have flashbacks of Carson Palmer‘s devastating injury in 2005. This time, it felt a bit different. Palmer, a little more reclusive, didn’t say much after his injury. We could also credit that silence to Twitter not being around yet.
Burrow made his intentions clear early on and just mere hours after the injury, he stated his intentions.
“See ya next year,” he tweeted. Clearly, he didn’t intend to spend much time feeling sorry for himself. Actually, his parents said that when they talked to him afterward, he talked about how the Bengals dominated Washington in the first half. After a career-altering injury, he just wanted to talk about what the offense did well. The old, “minor setback for a major comeback” mentality was clear.

Didn’t He Already Say He’d Be Back?
Burrow has done some interviews, voicing his confidence that he would be ready. We heard several “I think I’ll be ready” type quotes, but nothing definite. Given his drive, motivation, and desire to play football, we shouldn’t have expected to hear him say anything else.

But fans had not heard anything from an actual medical professional regarding where Burrow stood. The surgeon who worked on his knee saying what he did is a big deal.
