Atlanta Falcons, Tennessee Titans, Agree to Julio Jones Trade

Rumors of a potential Julio Jones trade first came to light in the buildup to the 2021 NFL Draft. With the Atlanta Falcons in cap hell and a long ways away from competing, Peter King believed that Atlanta could trade Jones in order to free up money in 2021 and 2022.

Jones battled through injury in 2020, but he was one of the NFL’s better receivers when on the field. During his nine games of action, Jones recorded 51 receptions on 68 targets for 771 yards, three touchdowns, and 15.1 yards per reception. Additionally, his 2.70 yards per route was the third-best mark in the league, which shows that Jones can still be an elite player when healthy.

Jones originally entered the NFL as a first-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Selected by the Atlanta Falcons in a massive trade with the Cleveland Browns, Jones immediately proved that he was worth the high price of investment. As a rookie, the Alabama product recorded 54 receptions for 959 yards and eight touchdowns on 95 targets. This impressive season was only the beginning, as he recorded 79 receptions for 1,198 yards and 10 touchdowns on 128 targets during his second season in the league.

After injuries limited him to just five games in 2013, Jones went on one of the best runs you’ll ever see from a wide receiver. From 2014 to 2019, Jones recorded 623 receptions for 9,388 yards and 37 touchdowns on 970 targets. This success, when adjusted to a 16-game pace, comes out to an average of 108 receptions for 1,633 yards and six touchdowns. He made the Pro Bowl in each one of the seasons and earned First-Team All-Pro honors in 2015 and 2016.
