Jarran Reed and the Seattle Seahawks failed to agree on a contract restructure that would have kept the former second-round pick in Seattle. Reed was looking for a long-term deal and talks broke down with Seattle. Reed spent the first five seasons of his career with the Seattle Seahawks. But reports state that Jarran Reed is now signing with the Kansas City Chiefs. It is a one-year deal worth up to $7 million with $5 million guaranteed.

The defensive tackle signed a two-year, $23 million contract extension with the Seahawks just last off-season. Reed went on to enjoy a fairly productive season in 2020. He recorded 6.5 sacks and started all 16 games on a Seattle team that won the NFC West division in 2020. Reed even sacked former Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff twice in the NFC Wild Card contest in the playoffs. However, Seattle ultimately lost to the Rams 30-20.
Reed missed several games for Seattle in 2019. He served a six-game suspension for a violation of the personal conduct policy for an incident from early 2017. Reed started all 10 games for Seattle he was available for and made two sacks.
Reed’s best season as a pro came in 2018. He racked up 10.5 sacks in a dominant season for the defensive tackle. This was a breakout campaign for Reed, who failed to register more than 1.5 sacks in a season his first two years in the league. In total, Reed earned 22 sacks in five seasons with Seattle.
A highly touted prospect coming out of college, Jarran Reed was drafted by Seattle in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft with the 49th overall pick. The team traded up with the Chicago Bears to select Reed in the second round. Seattle gave up the 56th overall pick and a fourth-round selection to take Reed. After transferring from East Mississippi Community College, Reed was a permanent fixture on the defensive line for the Alabama Crimson Tide. He was also part of the 2015 National Championship winning team. This latest move by the Chiefs, who have been to back-to-back Super Bowls with one win, could beneficial for them this season.
