After hitting the free-agent market, punter Kevin Huber has a new contract. The 35-year-old punter enters his thirteenth season of professional football this upcoming season. Last season in Cincinnati, Huber punted 71 times for an average of 47.2 yards, seventh-best in the NFL. He also clubbed a 72-yard punt during the 2020 season. That long punt tied for the longest of the year with Corey Bojorquez of the Buffalo Bills

Huber has been a fixture in Cincinnati’s special teams’ landscape. Appearing in 190 games, he’s played in all but two occasions since joining the Bengals in 2009. His two misses appearances came in 2013 after being blindsided by Terence Garvin of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was attempting to chase down Antonio Brown, who was the punt returner at the time for Pittsburgh. The play resulted in a broken jaw for Huber, ending his 2013 campaign two weeks early. He made a full recovery ahead of the 2014 season, returning for all of training camp.

Not only has Huber been a mainstay in the Bengals’ organization, but the City of Cincinnati itself. Huber attended Archbishop McNicholas High School in the Mt. Washington neighborhood of the city. Then, Huber played four years of college ball at the University of Cincinnati. During college, he was twice recognized as a consensus first-team All-American in 2007 and 2008.

Eventually, the Cincinnati Bengals selected Kevin Huber in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL Draft, keeping the hometown kid around. With the Bengals, he’s maintained a long string of on-field success. Huber was an All-Pro following the 2014 season, in addition to being named to the Pro Bowl. Ahead of his thirteenth season, he holds a career average of 45.3 yards per punt and a long of 75 yards.
