Five-year NFL veteran cornerback Vernon Hargreaves signed a one-year, to return to the Houston Texans. Hargreaves spent the 2020 season with the Texans.

Vernon Hargreaves, Houston Texans, Agree to Deal
Hargreaves started all 16 games for the Texans in 2020. Houston struggled to a 4-12 record that led to sweeping changes in the coaching staff and front office. However, Hargreaves enjoyed one of his most productive seasons as a professional. He recorded his first interception with the Texans in Week 9 of the 2020 season against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The cornerback also racked up 72 total tackles, the highest since his rookie season.
The five-year veteran re-signed with Houston in April after being released less than two months earlier. Hargreaves originally joined Houston after being waived by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in November 2019. Despite starting the first nine games of the 2019 season for Tampa Bay, the coaching staff felt Hargreaves was not putting in enough effort to warrant a place on the roster. A lack of hustle on a big play given up against the Arizona Cardinals on November 10th led to Hargreaves being benched and released just two days later.
In April 2019, the Buccaneers picked up Hargreaves’ fifth-year option as part of his rookie deal. This was a surprise at the time as the cornerback was coming off a severe shoulder injury that forced him to miss 15 games in 2018. A hamstring injury hampered Hargreaves 2017 season, limiting him to only nine games.
The Buccaneers selected Hargreaves 11th overall in the 2016 NFL Draft. He started all 16 games as a rookie and earned the first interception of his pro-career in Week 14 of his rookie season. Hargreaves intercepted Drew Brees in a 16-11 victory over the New Orleans Saints.
Hargreaves ranked among the highest cornerback prospects available in his draft class. A three-year starter with the Florida Gators, he racked up 10 interceptions in his college career.
