Three Major Storylines Entering New York Giants 2026 Training Camp

Three Major Storylines Entering New York Giants 2026 Training Camp

This offseason, the New York Giants’ training facility is undergoing renovations. With that, the team will be on the road for head coach John Harbaugh’s first training camp with Big Blue. On Tuesday, June 28th, the Giants are set to report for training camp at The Greenbrier in Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. New York’s first practice will be on Wednesday, June 29. What are three major storylines heading into New York Giants Training Camp in 2026?

What three major storylines should fans be aware of ahead of New York Giants Training Camp?

1. Malik Nabers avoids landing on PUP to begin training camp

As a rookie, Malik Nabers quickly proved that he is one of the top young wide receivers in the NFL. He tallied 109 catches for 1,204 receiving yards and seven touchdowns in 2024. That was enough for Nabers to earn a Pro Bowl nod in his first season. Unfortunately, his 2025 campaign was cut short due to a torn ACL and meniscus. He appeared in four games for New York and played just one half with quarterback Jaxson Dart.

After the injury in Week 4, Nabers had a long recovery ahead of him. This offseason, Nabers had surgery in late October and then another “clean-up” procedure. When fans heard of the second surgery, they became worried. However, ESPN’s Jordan Raanan provided a positive update last week. He reported that Nabers will avoid landing on the PUP to begin New York Giants Training Camp.

Additionally, Dan Duggan of The Athletic shared why Nabers’ training camp status is massive for New York. Players on the PUP for training camp cannot practice and can only work on the side with trainers. That will not be the case for the 23-year-old. Nabers will likely have a reduced workload at the start of New York Giants training camp. He’ll have time to work his way back to 100% and possibly be ready for their Week 1 Sunday Night Football matchup vs. the Dallas Cowboys.

2. John Harbaugh’s training camp will be rigorous

The Giants were eager to build a new culture for the 2026 season and beyond. With Harbaugh leading the way, New York is optimistic about their future. Players, coaches, and fans will get a taste of what New York Giants Training Camp will look like under the veteran head coach. Harbaugh was with Baltimore for 18 seasons. His methods are tried and true, leading to sustained success over the last two decades.

From 2022-2025, Brian Daboll was head coach. Dan Duggan of The Athletic reported that Daboll never held more than three straight days of training camp practice during his tenure. That will not be the case for Harbaugh. New York will have four straight days of practice to begin training camp. That will be followed by an off day this Sunday, then another six consecutive days of practice. Compared to what players on the Giants roster were used to with Daboll, Harbaugh’s training camp will be unrecognizable.

Duggan noted that six straight days of training camp practices is the maximum number allowed by the CBA. During 2025 training camp, the team had 19 practices. They have 23 scheduled for training camp in 2026. The veteran beat reporter also mentioned that Harbaugh relies heavily on sports science to determine how hard he should push the players.

3. Can the coaching staff help Jaxson Dart take a year two leap?

Not only is the 2026 season important for the entire Giants roster, but it is especially important for quarterback Jaxson Dart. The 23-year-old is set to enter his second professional season. Dart appeared in 14 games for New York last year and made 12 starts. He finished with 2,759 all-purpose yards and 24 total touchdowns. The 2025 first-round pick finished fourth in Rookie of the Year voting.

Ahead of his second season in the NFL, Dart has an entirely new coaching staff and offensive playbook to learn. Harbaugh hired Matt Nagy as offensive coordinator. Nagy was previously the head coach of the Bears and most recently the offensive coordinator in Kansas City. Last season, Daboll called plays for the Giants. He helped ease Dart into the NFL and ran formations he was familiar with in college.

The Giants ran 76.5% of their plays from the shotgun, according to Sharp Football Analysis. That will not be the case with Nagy. Expect to see the New York Giants offense under center in 2026. There will be a learning curve for Dart, but he is more than capable of taking a step forward in year two. Brian Callahan is the passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Callahan has worked with talented players in the past like Matthew Stafford, Joe Burrow, and Derek Carr. Can the entire Giants coaching staff help Dart take his development to another level?
