Sam Leavitt Scouting Report
Measurables:
Height- 6’2″
Weight- 205 lbs
Player Background:
Leavitt attended West Linn High School in West Linn, Oregon, where he won the Gatorade Football Player of the Year award for Oregon. Leavitt was a four-star recruit and committed to play at Michigan State, where he appeared in four games during the 2023 season. He then transferred to Arizona State for the 2024 season. Leavitt became a full-time starter for Arizona State and helped lead Arizona State to the program’s first-ever Big 12 Championship and College Football Playoff appearance.
He had 24 passing touchdowns and six interceptions, earning the Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year award and Second Team All-Big 12 honors. During the 2025 season, Leavitt started seven games, leading Arizona State to a 5-2 record in those games and an upset victory over eventual Big 12 Champion Texas Tech. However, Leavitt dealt with injury throughout the season and missed the last six games of the year due to season-ending surgery. During the offseason, Leavitt entered the transfer portal and was the No. 1 ranked player in the transfer portal, according to 247Sports. He will play for LSU during the 2026 season.
Strengths:
Leavitt is a quarterback with good athletic upside and mobility. He has a great scrambling ability and ran for 306 yards and five rushing touchdowns in just seven games during the 2025 season, and had 443 rushing yards during the 2024 season. As a runner, Leavitt is able to pick up big gains and had a 52-yard run and multiple 20-plus yard runs in 2025.
Leavitt has a quick release and good arm talent. He does a great job at extending plays and has good out-of-structure playmaking ability. Leavitt is able to consistently throw the ball well on the run, and he has good arm elasticity with the ability to throw the ball well from multiple arm angles and the ability to throw the ball well off-platform.
Leavitt has also played well in many big games in his first two seasons as a starter. He has helped lead his team to a 6-1 record against top 25 teams over the last two seasons and played very well in the Big 12 Championship game in 2024 and in an upset victory over Texas Tech last season.

Weaknesses:
Leavitt can struggle with consistently making plays from the pocket. He needs to do a better job at reading the defense and going through progressions, and he has a tendency to hold on to the ball for too long at times. Leavitt also tends to bail from the pocket too early, and he needs to improve his timing and anticipation as a passer.
Leavitt has inconsistent overall accuracy and is inconsistent as a deep ball passer. He needs to limit the amount of turnover-worthy throws he makes as well. Leavitt’s production dropped from the 2024 season to the 2025 season, and he also suffered a foot injury that required season-ending surgery during the season.
Sam Leavitt Scouting Report Overview:
Leavitt has a tremendous ability to extend plays, be a playmaker out of structure, and make impressive off-platform throws. Leavitt also possesses good athleticism and mobility. However, he will need to be much more consistent as a pocket passer, and he has to improve his consistency in accuracy, timing, and anticipation, while also continuing to improve his field vision and decision-making.
Leavitt transferred to LSU during the offseason, and should be a good fit in the offense. Leavitt is currently a Day 3 quarterback prospect, but he has good upside, and if he can become more consistent as a pocket passer and decision maker during the 2026 season, he has the potential to be one of the best quarterbacks in college football.
