From 2023 to 2025, the New York Giants had a record of 13-38. They’ve also had just two winning seasons in the last decade. However, fans are optimistic about the team’s future now that John Harbaugh has taken over. The veteran head coach brings a level of stability the Giants haven’t had in years. Recently, Fox’s Greg Olsen was interviewed by Collin Cowherd. Olsen is encouraged by what the New York has done this offseason and has made a bold Giants prediction.
The former three-time Pro Bowl tight end believes the Giants can be the 2025 Chicago Bears. Ahead of the 2025 season, Olsen predicted the Bears would be a surprise team after finishing 5-12 in 2024. Chicago did just and went 11-6 in 2025. With the head coaching upgrade and revamped roster, Olsen is high on the Giants.
Greg Olsen’s Giant prediction is music to fans’ ears
Olsen talked about the close games New York lost in 2025
Last season, the Giants finished 4-13. They were one of five teams that finished with four or fewer wins. Eight of their 13 losses were in one-possession games. Speaking with Cowherd, Olsen mentioned the luck factor at play. Back in 2022, New York won several close games and made the playoffs. Unfortunately, luck was not on their side in 2025. The team lost several close contests in various ways.
Olsen is confident the Giants will clean up errors from previous years. He mentioned game management and time-out usage as an area New York must clean up. With Harbaugh taking over, the team should not have to worry about those issues. An upgrade at head coach is just one reason why Olsen has confidence and made a bold Giants prediction ahead of the 2026 season.
What changes have made Olsen optimistic about the Giants in 2026?
First off, Olsen mentioned he loves their draft class. New York had two top ten picks in the 2026 class. Their first selection was Arvell Reese, fifth overall out of Ohio State. Reese was just a one-year full-time starter with the Buckeyes, but his ceiling is astronomical. Expect to see Reese be a contributor on the Giants’ defense for years to come. With the tenth overall pick in the 2026 NFL draft, New York selected Francis “Sisi” Mauigoa out of Miami.
Mauigoa started all 42 games he appeared in at the collegiate level. While he played right tackle for the Hurricanes, Mauigoa will move inside to right guard for the Giants. The 20-year-old is a versatile offensive lineman. He’ll help improve the run game and protect starting quarterback Jaxson Dart. Olsen mentioned that as another factor, the Giants must take into account. Having the quarterback healthy and available is vital to the team’s success.
Where else has New York added talent besides the NFL draft?
Free agency was massive for the Giants entering the 2026 season. The coaching staff and front office were serious about making upgrades and adding depth. They did that on both sides of the ball. Offensively, the Giants added several playmakers for 2026. That includes Isaiah Likley, Darnell Mooney, Calvin Austin III, Odell Beckham Jr., and Pat Ricard. Pro Bowl wide receiver Malik Nabers is still recovering after a second offseason surgery. Those free agent acquisitions will make a difference for New York.
Defensively, the Giants added several free agents to the roster. The most impactful defensive free agent joining the team was veteran linebacker Tremaine Edmunds. He is set to enter his ninth professional season. Edmunds signed a three-year contract with the Giants this offseason. Additionally, the team traded away Dexter Lawrence this offseason, leaving a major void at defensive tackle.
That is why New York went out and signed several free-agent interior defensive linemen. That included Shelby Harris, DJ Reader, Leki Fotu, and Sam Roberts. Undrafted free agent kicker Dominic Zvada has made a name for himself this offseason. After the Giants cut veteran kicker Jason Sanders, Zvada is in a prime position to be New York’s starter. Special teams have been a flaw for the Giants. With all the improvements made to the team ahead of 2026, Olsen is optimistic and made a bold Giants prediction.
