Alvin Kamara Trade

Alvin Kamara Trade Odds Skyrocket After Josh Jacobs Arrest

Alvin Kamara is one of the most popular trade targets in football, and his odds of finding a new team are at an all-time high after the latest Josh Jacobs news. For those unaware, the Green Bay Packers running back turned himself in, and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that Jacobs is “facing a felony assault charge of strangulation and suffocation, along with four misdemeanor charges.” For what it’s worth, Jacobs is denying these allegations, but it does not look good for the three-time Pro Bowl running back.

It’s far too early in the legal process to say what will happen with Josh Jacobs, and his future with the Green Bay Packers is not the most important part of the equation. However, with that out of the way, the show must go on, and the Packers should be looking into potential backup plans in the event Jacbos does not play this year. The running back has no guaranteed money left on his contract, and if the Packers decide to part ways with him, they should consider trading for Alvin Kamara.

Green Bay Packers Could Trade For Alvin Kamara To Replace Josh Jacobs

Even before the arrest, the Green Bay Packers were perilously thin at the running back position. Jacobs is a good starter, but he’s entering his age-28 season and had 270 touches last year. This is usually the point in a career where running backs begin to slow down, so he probably wouldn’t have been as efficient in 2026. The rest of the depth chart is weak, and a player like Alvin Kamara could be exactly what this team needs.

Last year’s backup running back, Emanuel Wilson, played well in limited opportunities for the Packers. However, he’s now on the Seattle Seahawks, which means Chris Brooks, former third-round pick MarShawn Lloyd, and Pierre Strong would be battling for the starting job if the Packers part ways with Jacobs. Lloyd is far and away the most exciting name of the three, but he’s struggled to stay on the field throughout his short NFL career and has yet to prove he can handle an NFL workload. Brooks has less than 100 carries to his name and Strong has bounced around the league and never found a true home.

Alvin Kamara is not the player he once was, but he’d easily be the best running back on this roster. A five-time Pro Bowler, Kamara showed signs of slowing down last year but should have enough left in his tank to be a decent starter in the right system. Packers head coach Matt LaFleur is one of the league’s better offensive minds and should be able to get the most out of the former star running back. This may not be an ideal solution for Green Bay, but Kamara is probably the best option available at this point in the offseason.

Other Options

On paper, the easiest way to replace Josh Jacobs is with a free agent. However, just about every good player has already found a home. The biggest names remaining on the open market are Joe Mixon, Najee Harris, Austin Ekeler, and Antonio Gibson, and each player missed all or most of the previous season with serious injuries. Additionally, they’re all past the age where running backs start slowing down, so they probably don’t have much of anything left in their tank.

The Packers would need to trade for Alvin Kamara, but it shouldn’t cost too much. New Orleans spent big on former Jaguar Travis Etienne, and they’d probably accept a conditional late-round pick for Kamara’s services.
