One of the worst-kept secrets in the NFL is AJ Brown and his future with the Philadelphia Eagles. The team is expected to trade Brown by June 1, especially after drafting Makai Lemon with the No. 20 pick. Philadelphia has been stocking up on receivers this offseason, signing Marquise Brown and trading for Dontayvion Wicks. While Eagles GM Howie Roseman doesn’t want to trade Brown, the team has been in talks with the New England Patriots regarding a trade.
While the two are working out their differences, former Jaguars GM David Caldwell shared some comments regarding Brown’s future. Caldwell, who served as senior personnel director/adviser to Roseman from 2022 to 2025.
“You’re looking at the value of what you think the player is,” Caldwell said. “Both sides can agree on that — ‘hey, he’s a Pro Bowl-level player and historically, a Pro Bowl-level player at this position, at this age, at this stage of his career, have gone for this.’ That’s it in a vacuum.”
Former Jaguars GM Makes Bold Prediction on AJ Brown
If you read between the lines, he’s saying that Brown isn’t worth the value of a possible first-round pick. The receiver will turn 29 in June, which could cause some concern for his reliability. However, he’s totaled four straight seasons worth of 1,000 receiving yards. Comparisons can be made to Davante Adams and Stefon Diggs, but each one had their own experiences. Adams is still on a team while Diggs is looking for work.
Meanwhile, Brown is on his own journey. He’s healthy and hasn’t shown any signs of injuries or ailments that are stopping him. The only thing to watch is what the Patriots are going to offer. They should be able to give at least a two second-round picks if they’re not budging on a first-rounder.
However, this is Mike Vrabel’s guy. He was disappointed to see the Titans traded Brown several seasons ago, so it shouldn’t be a surprise for him to be aggressive in getting him. The relationship between Vrabel and Brown is too strong, so the receiver should be teaming up with Romeo Doubs and Kayshon Boutte relatively soon.
