Analyzing the Depth at Receiver for the Green Bay Packers

As much of the credit goes to the quarterback for making plays downfield, the receivers also deserve some. As for the Green Bay Packers, they have had great quarterback play for decades. But now, they face some questions as they prepare for the 2026 NFL season.

Is Green Bay Deep Enough at Wide Receiver?

With the dismissals of wideouts Romeo Doubs and Dontayvion Wicks, the team will turn to the roster that they have. Sure, they have talent. But is the roster deep enough for them to make a deep postseason run?

Why the Green Bay Packers Might Be Deep Enough

For the first time since 2002, the Packers chose a receiver in the first round. Green Bay is expecting wide receiver Matthew Golden to take a big step forward in 2026. He has incredible speed that makes him hard to catch. He has the potential to be one of the best route runners in all of football.

With a running speed of 4.29, he will have to make an increasing number of plays in order for the Packers to win games. He had below-average numbers in 2025 (29 receptions and 361 yards), but he shows promise.

Quarterback Jordan Love simply loves to use his interior weapons to stretch the defense. The Packers get great production from their tight ends. Tucker Kraft proved to be a valuable weapon last year. But he was lost for the majority of 2025 due to a torn ACL.

Luke Musgrave also proved to be a good target in the offense. He is a veteran with experience and has also helped stretch opposing defenses. The Green Bay Packers are happy to have Love as their quarterback to master the offense.

From Favre to Rodgers, Love has been highly efficient. His 2025 numbers (3,381 yards, 25 touchdowns, and six interceptions) made him one of the top quarterbacks in the NFC. He loves to share the football with everyone.

Why The Green Bay Packers Lack Depth

He has to stay healthy and consistent. There were some games in 2025 that were head-scratchers to the media. Love struggled in games against the Browns, Panthers, and Cowboys in 2025. If he can be steadier, the Green Bay Packers can win the NFC North.

By letting Romeo Doubs and Dontayvion Wicks go, the Packers have lost experience. Not only that, but they lost 131 targets’ worth of it. The huge gap will force other players to take on responsibility to make up for the loss.

Wideout Christian Watson is a strong receiver who can make plays. But he has proven to be injury-prone in recent years. If he or slot receiver Jayden Reed misses time, the Packers do not have many other options.

The Packers over the last few seasons have not really had a true WR1. Although this may seem like a good problem to have, not having a go-to option is concerning. Green Bay will have to rely on its tight ends to make plays.

The team does not have a first-round pick for the 2026 NFL draft. Because of this, they may have to wait longer for a good option at the receiving position. If the Packers can get Golden going, the team will be in good hands.

Reflection

The Green Bay Packers have an elite group of dangerous receivers. They give Love a chance to spread the football around and make plays. But they have to stay healthy. They also have to design more strategies for Matthew Golden if they want to make a deep run.
