Social Media Has Plenty To Say About Commanders’ New Uniforms

The Washington Commanders New Uniforms: Hit or Miss?

The Washington Commanders new uniforms were finally revealed yesterday. They rolled out a new look, leaned into the past just enough to stir something, and then stepped back to let the internet do what it does best.

Within minutes of the reveal, timelines filled up. Immediately. Because when it comes to new uniform reveals, nobody sits on the fence.

The new set leans heavily into the franchise’s older identity, pulling inspiration from the Super Bowl era while mixing in newer elements like the black alternate and the now very talked about spear logo.

That alone was enough to guarantee a reaction.

Mixed Reviews So Far

There has been a mixed review of the Commanders new uniforms. Some traditionalists like the throwback look to the Super Bowl era, but the “W” that has been around since 2022 sticks out like a sore thumb to some fans. Many long time fans liked the idea of seeing the feather come back. Instead the Commanders opted not to do so and brought back a spear in one of their alternate jerseys. Here are some more social media reactions to the Commanders uniform drop yesterday.

The Commanders Were Never Going to Please Everyone

There was no chance the entire fan base would be happy with the reveal. That was a reality that was off the table the second they decided to peek back in on anything that resembled an actual history to this franchise. You do not pry the door ajar half way and expect anything other than pandemonium.

Fan surveys leading up to this announcement told the story all ready. The portion of the fan base who still has not fully bought into the identity of the Commanders wanted a traditional look. But the part of the fan base that have embraced the Commanders seemingly preferred a clean modern look of a professional football team.

Then there was the element of nostalgia mixed into the blend. Not that there’s anything wrong with safe nostalgia. But to those who wanted that modern look, the uniforms were a miss.

This reaction? Expected.

Some fans are looking at this and they can see a step forward, while others are looking at a half step backward.

You just can’t please everybody.
