Jayden Daniels May Be Recruiting Former ASU Offensive Threat to Washington

This past week in an interview with Yahoo Sports’ Nate Tice, Jayden Daniels casually mentioned reuniting with a former Arizona State teammate.

After a dismal season with a lack of offensive firepower, you don’t just mention something like that unless it’s been on your mind. But let’s stop kidding ourselves. We all know who it is.

Brandon Aiyuk.

The Arizona State Connection

Jayden Daniels and Brandon Aiyuk together were an offensive threat on the field that was hard to match. As a freshman, Daniels threw for just under 3,000 yards and 17 TD’s, and Aiyuk was the clear go-to option in that offense, piling up nearly 1,200 receiving yards and eight touchdowns of his own.

Washington Needs More Firepower

Terry McLaurin is still the guy in DC. After having an amazing 2024-2025 season, McLaurin fell off considerably in 2025-2026. Part of that was due to his own injuries, and the other part may have been due to Daniels’ injuries. Even when healthy, McLaurin consistently found himself in double coverage situations. Deebo Samuel was a bright part of the offense, but he is an unrestricted free agent and isn’t a spring chicken by any measure.

So how do you fix that? Bring in a guy like Brandon Aiyuk. Aiyuk has two separate 1,000-yard seasons, but the fallout in San Francisco has been a situation to monitor.

The Situation in San Francisco

With Aiyuk’s former teammate Deebo Samuel likely leaving Washington prior to the start of the 2026-2027 season, Aiyuk would be an amazing pickup for Washington. Aiyuk’s situation in San Francisco has been a bit odd. There has been a lot of offseason drama, contractual issues, and, of course, injuries. Over the past couple of years, it does not seem like the 49ers and Aiyuk have been on the best of terms. So, an opportunity with an old teammate in an organization suggested to be on the rise? This may be a great opportunity for Aiyuk.

Why Jayden Daniels Recruiting Aiyuk Makes Sense

The idea of Jayden Daniels Recruiting Aiyuk makes sense. Daniels knows what the Commanders offense needs. Finding somebody he was comfortable with to throw the ball to is only going to make things better. The Commanders General Manager, Adam Peters, should be listening to what Daniels is hinting at.

Could you imagine? Terry McLaurin lined up on one side and Brandon Aiyuk on the other? What is a defense to do? They have to pick their poison, and either way, it won’t end well for the defense. The Commanders haven’t had a duo this talented in years, and it would be huge for Jayden Daniels’ development and the offense moving forward.

Having a duo like this will not put Daniels in a position where he has to force throws. The offense would absolutely feel scary. But when a star quarterback starts suggesting names to help him out on offense, ownership and the GM should take notice.

But if Jayden Daniels is really pushing for this reunion to happen, I’m all for it.
