Patrick Mahomes Injury Update: Chiefs Star “Doesn’t Look Good” After Playoff Elimination

2025 has been a nightmare for the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Patrick Mahomes injury may just be the worst moment yet in this season to forget. Trailing 16-13 late to the Los Angeles Chargers, Mahomes desperately tried to lead a comeback to save the team’s playoff hopes. Unfortunately, he suffered a knee injury and left the contest with roughly two minutes left in the game. He did not return, and head coach Andy Reid gave an ominous update after the game.

Speaking to reporters, the Super Bowl-winning head coach said that the Patrick Mahomes injury “didn’t look good.” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport added that, seeing as the team is officially out of the playoffs, the team will use “extreme caution” with their star quarterback. Reading between the lines, it appears as though Mahomes has played his final snap of the year.

Patrick Mahomes Injury Update: Chiefs QB Suffers Knee Injury, “Doesn’t Look Good”

As of this posting, it’s too early to say how long this knee injury will impact Patrick Mahomes next year. However, seeing as the team has nothing left to play for, it’s safe to assume the quarterback has played his final game of the season. If this truly is the end of the road for him in 2025, it brings a disappointing season to a close.

In 14 games, the Texas Tech product completed 63.1% of his passes for 3,398 yards, 22 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. Kansas City went 6-8 in his starts, with seven of those losses coming in one-score games. Last year, the Chiefs were undefeated in those scenarios.

This could also be the last time Patrick Mahomes completes a pass to Travis Kelce. The superstar tight end hinted at retirement last year, and while he has played reasonably well this year, he might hang it up after the 2025 season as he gets closer and closer to his 40th birthday.
