After losing Najee Harris for the rest of the season, it’s hard to imagine that the Chargers would consider bringing him back. While rookie Omarion Hampton is the future of this run offense, he hasn’t been consistent due to growing pains and nursing an injury for most of the 2025 campaign. Head coach Jim Harbaugh wants a physical downhill runner for Justin Herbert’s offense, and he might have to trade for one to make his wish come true. Hampton could benefit from the presence of Montgomery, similar to his performance with Gibbs.
The Chargers have the cap space for it, so this might be the move that gets the Chargers back in the AFC Championship Game in 2027 if they pull off the trade in 2026.
