The Kansas City Chiefs’ offense is about to look a lot scarier.
Rashee Rice is back and ready to explode
After six long weeks without their most dynamic playmaker, Rashee Rice is back. The second-year wide receiver, who many inside the organization quietly describe as the Chiefs’ most complete offensive weapon, is set to return to the practice field Wednesday following the completion of his six-game suspension.
Multi-vehicle crash in Dallas last March.
Rice’s ban, issued under the NFL’s personal conduct policy for his involvement in a March 2024 car crash in Dallas, kept him away from football activity for more than a month. Yet, by all accounts, Rice didn’t waste a single day.
Head coach Andy Reid shared his excitement following the end of the suspension.
“Listen, I know he’s been working like crazy,” said Reid.
“The rule states that we can’t work with him, but I know he’s been working out hard. He’s in good shape, that I know for sure.”
Kansas City could have waited until Sunday to reinstate Rice to the 53-man roster, but instead did it immediately after his suspension expired, a clear sign of confidence that he’s ready for Sunday’s AFC West showdown against the Las Vegas Raiders at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
The Chiefs managed to tread water without Rice, posting a 3–3 record capped by Sunday night’s 30-17 win over the Detroit Lions. But for all of Kansas City’s progress, it’s been evident that the offense has missed Rice’s chemistry with star quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Impressive rookie season

In his rookie season, the former SMU standout became one of Mahomes’ most trusted targets, catching 79 passes for 938 yards and seven touchdowns while helping the Chiefs win Super Bowl LVIII.
Now, he returns to an offense that looks more loaded than it has in years. Kansas City’s wide receiver room features Hollywood Brown, who’s back from a shoulder injury, and rookie speedster Xavier Worthy, the team’s first-round pick in 2024. Together, the trio represents a level of firepower Mahomes hasn’t had since the days of Tyreek Hill.
“Those are my brothers,” Brown said after Sunday’s win. “We’ve all been through a lot individually, so this moment isn’t something we’ll take for granted. We’re going to play hard for each other.”
A Long-Awaited Reunion
It’s been nearly two years since Rice, Brown, and Worthy last shared the field — one play, to be exact, in the 2024 preseason opener against Jacksonville before injuries sidelined both receivers.
Now, all three are healthy. All three are ready. And all three are itching to prove that Kansas City’s offense is still the NFL’s gold standard.
“That dude’s gotten stronger, faster, smarter — he’s got it all,” said JuJu Smith-Schuster of Rice. “He’s been working with great trainers back home, and you can tell he’s ready. You can see it in his eyes.”
Even Reid, usually cautious with his optimism, couldn’t hide his excitement.
“I think they’re looking forward to it — maybe even more than I am,” Reid said. “They’re excited to play together. Those three are very close. It’ll be great to get them back going.”
Now that Rashee Rice is back, how terrifying can Kansas City’s offense become?
