Breaking: Super Bowl Winning Quarterback Signs Contract With New York Giants

13-year veteran quarterback Russell Wilson signed a new contract with the New York Giants. Wilson, a one-time Super Bowl champion and nine-time Pro Bowler, spent the 2024 season with the Pittsburgh Steelers but has also played for the Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos.

After a failed stint with the Denver Broncos, Russell Wilson hoped to revive his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Signed to be the unquestioned starter, Wilson suffered a calf injury early in the season and missed the first six games. However, he returned for the final 11 regular season games to mixed results. While he started off great, the quarterback struggled down the stretch and finished the season on a five-game losing streak, including the blowout playoff loss to the Baltimore Ravens. In total, he completed 63.7% of his passes for 2,482 yards, 16 touchdowns, and five interceptions.

Wilson originally entered the league as a third-round pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. Selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers, the North Carolina State product immediately outplayed his draft expectations and earned the Week 1 starting job over free agent signee Matt Flynn. Making the Pro Bowl as a rookie, Wilson finished his inaugural season completing 64.1% of his passes for 3,118 yards, 26 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. He followed this up with an even better 2013, guiding the Seahawks to the first championship in team history with a blowout victory over Peyton Manning’s Denver Broncos.

Russell Wilson remained one of the game’s best passers throughout the 2010’s, but Seattle eventually traded him to the Denver Broncos in 2022. Signed to a record-breaking contract, Russell Wilson struggled under first-year head coach Nathaniel Hackett. Starting all 16 games, the quarterback completed 60.5% of his passes for 3,524 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. While he improved in Year 2 under Sean Payton, it wasn’t enough for the quarterback to save his job. Denver took on a record amount of dead money to release Wilson and drafted his successor, Bo Nix, in the 2024 NFL Draft.
