Dallas Cowboys Like This Coordinator for Head Coaching Position

The Dallas Cowboys head coaching position is now vacant and the search has been a wild ride. Numerous names have been thrown around as candidates such as Deion Sanders, Kellen Moore, Leslie Frazier, Ben Johnson, and more. Now, another offensive coordinator’s name has been thrown into the mix.

Dallas Cowboys Expected to Interview This Offensive Coordinator

After the Dallas Cowboys fired Mike McCarthy, rumors immediately started swirling about candidates for the head coach position. Once again, a new name is in the news today as offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury is expected to interview for the Cowboys head coaching position. Kingsbury has seen great success as the Washington Commanders offensive coordinator this season. Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels has been nothing short of spectacular with Kingsbury, highlighted by their 45-31 win over the Detroit Lions on Saturday night. Kingsbury could bring offensive expertise to Dallas and rejuvenate the Cowboys’ offense.

Benefits of Hiring Kingsbury

Kliff Kingsbury is a great offensive mind. He has seen offensive success with many teams including the Texas A&M Aggies, Texas Tech Red Raiders, USC Trojans, and now the Washington Commanders. Kingsbury has worked with numerous elite quarterbacks such as Heisman trophy winners Johnny Manziel at Texas A&M and Caleb Williams at USC. Kingsbury is coaching the future rookie of the year Jayden Daniels and the Commanders are in the NFC Championship Game.

The Commanders’ offense has been elite all season with Kingsbury. He has brought their offense to another level. Last season, the Commanders were 25th in points per game, and 24th in yards per game. This season with Kingsbury, and rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, the Commanders offense ranks 5th in points per game, and 7th in yards per game. He has been crucial in the development of Jayden Daniels and the success of the Commanders offense.

Risks With Kingsbury

One risk associated with Kingsbury is that he was previously the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals. This is a concern because these years didn’t go very well for Kingsbury and Arizona. Through four seasons, he had a 28-37-1 record with just one playoff appearance. In that appearance, the Cardinals were blown out by the Rams 34-11. This stint has likely scared some teams away from hiring Kingsbury. Will Jerry Jones feel the same way?

Looking Ahead

For a very long time, the Dallas Cowboys were the standard in the NFL. They consistently had success winning NFC championships and Super Bowls until the 21st century hit. Since then, Dallas has failed to even appear in a Super Bowl. Jerry Jones has a massive decision ahead of him. Kliff Kingsbury is an intriguing candidate as he has been an elite offensive coordinator for rival Washington. However, many other notable names have been floated around the position. Jones will be able to choose virtually any coach he pleases. The Cowboys’ job is an intriguing one as the roster has talent, highlighted by star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and linebacker Micah Parsons. However, the team has many flaws as well such as question marks around quarterback Dak Prescott, and a defense that ranked towards the bottom in most statistical categories this season. Whoever Jones chooses to hire will have their work cut out for them.
